You might recognize these distinctive yellow chairs, scattered throughout the von Trapp villa in the 1965 classic 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑺𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒅 𝒐𝒇 𝑴𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒄. But did you know, they’ve appeared in other productions as well? Part of a large set once owned by Twentieth Century Fox (now Twentieth Century Studios), the collection included numerous Louis XV and Louis XVI–style pieces: chairs both with and without arms, at least two settees, and multiple bergères—some upholstered, others caned—all covered in that unmistakable yellow fabric. Several pieces from the set appear in the 1963 comedy 𝑻𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝑯𝒆𝒓, 𝑺𝒉𝒆’𝒔 𝑴𝒊𝒏𝒆, and later in the 1966 episode of 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑻𝒊𝒎𝒆 𝑻𝒖𝒏𝒏𝒆𝒍 entitled 𝑹𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒛𝒗𝒐𝒖𝒔 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒀𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒅𝒂𝒚. The chairs likely appeared in many more Fox productions before 1963 and after 1966. Their ultimate fate is uncertain, though it’s probable they were sold during the studio’s massive 1971 auction, when much of Fox’s prop and costume collection was dispersed. If you’ve seen these pieces in another Fox production, let us know! Bit.ly/Prop029
