Been thinking about the AU fauna again, particularly species of critters kept on farms for husbandry reasons (I especially love the idea of Dirtmouth having one). I already have the Mamoths which are raised for their wool, but I thought it would be interesting if the Dirtmouth bugs kept other species for a variety of purposes.
Perhaps a chicken-like critter raised for their meat but also "feathers", based on the feather winged beetle. Those feathers could be used for arrows, brushes and pillows. Perhaps they would also produce eggs used in cooking? Though that purpose could be left for another similarly sized species.
Speaking of food, I've loved the idea of a cattle-like animal ever since I found out about the cockroach species that produces a milk like substance. Many of my designs are very mammal-like, but I do think that producing milk is a very rare trait, so it would make sense if they harvested it from animals that do.
And I imagine that keeping some animals for meat would be very efficient, especially something like those round flying critters from Kingdom's Edge (I forgot the name but you know what I'm talking about).
Maybe some animals that help with plowing the fields? My mind wanders to the Plowhorns from Horizon Forbidden West, a large ceratopsian looking machines that plow the ground and are treated as land-gods. I don't think such worship would take place in Hallownest, but I could absolutely see the bugs using animals of similar appearance for such purpose.
I can't wait to sketch out some of those concepts, and as always, I'm open for inspiration and name suggestions!
