3. A character trying to find a place in their community
Cheddar and Parmesan are total newcomers to Firebird's Roost, so they're a lock for this question, but you might be surprised to hear that Cheddar is actually having a much harder time with it than Parmesan is. Don't get her wrong, she's met a ton of interesting people and they've all been super nice, it's just... it feels like most of the clan is operating on a different wavelength from her.
Everyone's weirdly pessimistic, always joking about how miserable their old lives were, and they look at her like she's crazy whenever she suggests that there are things she misses about the outside world. Sure, Cinderslag had a lot of problems, but that doesn't mean it was just misery 24/7! What about their friends? The families they had to leave behind?
(Even Parmesan seems to be forgetting all the good times they've had together in favor of dwelling on the worst days...)
She's made a lot of friendly acquaintances, but is still trying to find someone she can really connect with on a personal level. Hopefully it happens soon!
13. A one-sided dislike or rivalry
Second time getting this question today! Spoiler alert, it's also not the last.
Persephone is NOT a hatchling. She's a ruthless criminal who just happened to get stuck in this stupid tiny body because some disgruntled client wanted to teach her a lesson. Anyone who patronizes her or treats her like a kid will quickly come to regret their decision.
With that being said, she's aware that her current form leaves a lot to be desired, so she decided to hire a bodyguard. Y'know, someone intimidating, someone who could shut up all those dragons who laughed at her and carry out the work she didn't want to dirty her own claws with.
Instead, she got Winters. Faithful as a dog and strong as an ox, but severely lacking in the brains department and way too friendly for their own good. They don't seem to realize that they and Persephone are criminals and mostly just enjoy spending time with her as a friend-slash-babysitter.
Persephone finds their saccharine demeanor deeply annoying, but begrudgingly keeps her mouth shut because she knows that they're her best option. Turns out there aren't many mercenaries who'd be willing to serve a hatchling.
15. A one-sided affection
Starsight fell in love once. He met someone who meant the entire world to him, who sent his heart racing with their smile and swept him along on all kinds of wonderful adventures.
That person is gone now. Or maybe they never existed, and he was just too naive to see it before. In either case, Starsight knows that his feelings haven't been requited for a very long time.
Still, part of him clings to the version of his lover that exists in his memory, convinced that they might someday return to their senses and embrace him again.
Maybe this time, if he just gets it right...
