RODRIGUE IS IN FOREHEAD KISSING RANGE FOR LAMBERT
I REPEAT
RODRIGUE IS IN FOREHEAD KISSING RANGE
THIS IS NOT A DRILL
Honestly I think that the DILFs relationship, in canon universe, would have sort of a “ships passing in the night” kind of feel. When they were lads there were so many times when they almost just came out with it and confessed their feelings, but there was always something that made them believe that they might be mistaken about their love being reciprocated.
Then as they get older and older it gets harder and harder to say, because all of these niggling little worries and doubts keep piling up and eating away at them, and it gets easier and easier to just explain those brief glimmers of hope away as an anomaly instead of Proof of Real Feelings, until one day it’s too late for them. Rodrigue marries a woman that he Likes, but he doesn’t Love, because she’s from a noble family and he knew for certain that she liked him and that’s just safer. Then Lambert follows suit, because he’s King and That’s What Kings Do.
By the time that happens, they’ve long since realized that they had a shot. But that’s too painful to admit, so they continue with this charade of Friends (with occasional benefits) because they just can’t let go of one another the way that they know they’re supposed to.
That’s Rodrigue’s biggest regret about Lambert’s death. Not that he wasn’t there to protect him (though he should have been), not that he hadn’t been able to stop him (though he should have tried harder), but that on a warm spring afternoon some twenty years ago, when they were young and stupid and free, he didn’t just tell him that he loved him.

AKA I fleshed out that short I wrote awhile back and turned it into something post-able for the DILFS. @bloomandcoffee I think you might be interested in this.
Hi! New to the blog and just spent ~3 hours reading everything. You're doing great things my friend! Any chance I can get some secret siblings AU angst? I thought that AU in particular was interesting. Did Lambert know Rodrigue was Dima's father?
Welcome to the blog! Glad to have you!
You know, it really depends on the AU for Lambert knowing if Rodrigue is Dimitri’s father!
He definitely knows in all canon-compliant universes, because they’re secretly in love and refuse to say it. Lambert somehow always finds a way to be “inconveniently” away during his (admittedly rather irregular) heats. What is a king to do except ride the cock of his lovely vassal in situations such as those? Ahem so yeah, basically Rodrigue is the only person Lambert has slept with for a good long while, so he knows that Dimi has to be his.
Modern AU is a bit more dubious. Poor Dimitri is basically a drunken mistake baby, and Lambert was too fucked up to really remember who he slept with. Rodrigue is terrified of telling him because he doesn’t want to ruin their friendship over a drunken lapse in judgement.
I think Lambert does find out eventually in that AU, because Mrs. Fraldarius knows and she spills the beans to him. Rodrigue told her everything after it happened because he felt guilty for being unfaithful, even if he would secretly prefer to fuck off with his best friend. Lambert had some sneaking suspicions (Dimitri looked just a bit too much like Rodrigue for it to be a coincidence) but no solid proof until that point.
Neither of them ever addresses this (we love the Blue Lion tradition of burying your feelings!), so Rodrigue never finds out that Lambert knew. It’s one of his biggest regrets.
As for how this would affect Felix and Dimitri... Well it’s a mixed bag.
Dimitri spends the majority of his life blissfully unaware that his new adopted/surrogate father (depending on AU) is also technically his biological father.
Felix, who I headcanon to be a bit of a mama’s boy because all the best tsuns are, finds this out when he’s ~13 years old after Lambert dies. Suffice to say, he resents his father. Kids pick up on stuff, and it was pretty clear to him that his dad didn’t really love his mom. Dimitri also tends to get some favorable treatment. Not his fault, just Rodrigue trying to make up for being a shitty father for thirteen years of his life.
And honestly I’ve kind of had the urge to talk more about that Modern AU Dimitri-gets-teen-pregnant thing from awhile back so I might use this to segue into some talk about that (because there is some truly delicious untapped angst and Dimidue tenderness there), but I’m lowkey falling asleep as I type this so I’ll probably do that in the morning.
Your dilf short was amazing! Now though I can’t stop contemplating an au where Rodrigue and Lambert got their heads out of their asses and actually got married. How much would canon change with the two of them together? Would Glenn be the heir and Dimitri the spare? Would the fracture between Dimitri and Felix be worse or better if they’re twins? Would the tragedy of Duscur still happen without Patricia to help with it?
I will do you one better, anon.
AU where Lambert and Rodrigue have an arranged engagement but they fall in love anyways. They’ve basically been promised to each other since birth, but the engagement isn’t formalized until they’ve both presented (just in case they end up an Alpha/Alpha, Beta/Beta, Omega/Omega, or any other combination of dynamics that would result in it being impossible to bear children).
They don’t really start feeling the pressure until they’re in their academy years. By this point they’re both well aware of their dynamics and what that means for them as friends and as a couple. They aren’t wholly opposed to the idea of getting married. I mean, they’ve been best friends for a long time, and the political gains would be incalculable for both parties. Merging the two most prominent houses? It’s a no-brainer.
Still, it’s a lot of pressure to put on two teenagers. They just wanna ditch class and make out by the fishing pond but there’s people constantly up in their business talking about guest lists and wedding decorations (they’re getting married basically as soon as they graduate).
For the fraldardads/secret twin au: Imagine the actual chaos that would have erupted had Lambert and Rodrigue not been the luckiest bastards in the world, with Felix manifesting a crest of Blaiddyd and Dimitri manifesting a crest of Fraldarius
Honestly I think at that point they might have just needed to fess up and face the music. There was absolutely no way in hell they were going to get away with that one unless they shipped the kids off to an orphanage (and they weren’t going to do that for obvious reasons).
Honestly… I’m not 100% sure it would have been as bad as they were thinking. I mean, I think most of the nobility already suspected that they were fucking. There’s always rumors of the Blaiddyds and Fraldariuses fucking (Loog and Kyphon cough cough)
I think, aside from the whole infidelity thing, most of the nobility would actually find the union preferable. I mean, you’ve basically just combined two of the biggest powerhouses in the nation into one super strong, super influential family. Maybe not so great for internal relations, but there’s no doubt it would scare the Empire/Alliance a little bit to know there’s a potential future king with a Major Crest (Though I do have to wonder… Would the Blaiddyd crest bearer take the throne? Dimitri was technically born first and he does bear a crest, but Felix has a MAJOR FUCKING CREST of Blaiddyd if we’re assuming he still keeps the major part in this scenario).
Plus, I mean, it’s not necessarily uncommon for kings to take on lovers. We know by at least two of Dimitri’s endings that he probably takes on a gay lover (or heck, just has a gay lover and apparently no wife in Dedue’s case) and no one seems to question it. It might be a little different if Lambert is the Omega in this scenario but I really don’t think people would find their relationship so strange.
Or heck, they could probably still hide it actually. Since in game you don’t need to have THE crest of a weapon, you just need ANY crest to wield the sacred weapons. They could pretend Dimitri got a Blaiddyd crest and Felix got a Fraldarius one (but I think that’s a less fun scenario, don’t you?)
Okay okay another idea for Secret Twin/Secret Siblings AU:
In this Omegaverse I think that twins would generally present around the same time (sometimes even on the same day). I imagine that the average age is about 13/14, and if they haven’t presented by about 17 they’re just assumed to be a Beta.
Rodrigue isn’t in Duscur with Lambert because Felix presented a little early, and he needed someone to be there to take care of him through it. Since his “mom” is dead (I just assume Rodrigue’s wife is dead because she’s never brought up ever) that means he has to do it. He begs Lambert not to go but the king won’t, so he sends Glenn in his stead.
Cue Tragedy of Duscur
Now, Dimitri’s body was actually gearing up for its own first heat while they’re in Duscur, and had the tragedy not happened he probably would have presented within a couple of weeks of Felix. BUT severe trauma can delay these sorts of things, which results in Dimitri being a very late bloomer (I imagine he doesn’t present until shortly before his 17th birthday, a couple of months before he’s set to go to the Officer’s Academy).
After about a year of him not having a heat most of the people who suspected he might be Rodrigue’s and Lambert’s illicit love child back off that assumption (if he were Felix’s sibling then surely they would have presented close together, right?)
Little do they know...
