Framework Ward
Jemma’s sass towards Ward in the Framework is truly unmatched. She gives no fucks as she keeps subtly (and not so subtly) jabbing at him left and right. She experiences genuine visceral disgust when she finds out him and Daisy woke up together (“this isn’t the Framework, this is HELL”). Girl was done before even entering the Framework, but as soon as she saw that mf’s face, you can see the last shred of sanity leave her body lmao
how dare the Framework make me have feelings about Grant Ward against my will
I'm gonna be honest. One of the best things Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. did in my eyes was put Ward in the Framework as a good person.
This for starters delves into the inherent goodness of humanity. This was a world where Victoria Hand recruited Ward. Hand was no Coulson, she was plenty sketchy, but she wasn't Hydra. And Ward is such a good person in the Framework. He is fighting for a group of people (Inhumans) that he isn't even included in, he cares so much about Skye, he has good relationships with Mace and Trip, and ends up being the leader of S.H.I.E.L.D. after Mace's death. He is such a good person, and we only knew him for a couple of episodes. All because of one difference. Ward is inherently a good person, as are we all. Yes, he did bad things before meeting Garrett/Hand, arson is typically frowned upon, as is attempted murder. But we all can change, and he did. Plus, the bad things Ward did pre-Garrett were done out of a place of abuse. It doesn't excuse it, but it does explain it, and I am more likely to be lenient towards someone like Ward versus someone who just tried to kill his brother for fun. But, from what we've seen in the "real" world and the Framework, Garrett was really Ward's undoing, and taking him out of the equation meant that Ward became an amazing person. We all have that potential, we all can change, and situation is important.
Also, at least for me it was a very emotional thing because we saw what could've been. Ward could've been this amazing guy, he had the potential. And imagine how awesome AoS would be with a good guy Ward? If you push aside the Nazism, Ward is a really cool guy. Imagine seeing that every episode? Heck, him and Daisy could be a thing still! The show would've been different, but it would've been awesome! But we don't get that. Instead, Garrett was the one to recruit him. Instead, Ward joined Hydra. Instead, Ward died to bring back Hive. He could've been an amazing person, but that's not how things played out. For the sake of giving an example, imagine a Framework arc but with the Avengers, and instead of how reality went, Odin wasn't a horrible parent and never lied to Loki. And Thor and Loki got along and Loki himself was an Avenger because something else caused the Avengers getting together. And Loki, while still insecure about being a Jotun, was far more comfortable with it than our Loki is. Imagine how you would feel seeing all of that happen because of the different actions of one person that changed everything, knowing that things are so much worse for Loki in reality. That's what it's like with Ward in the Framework. It makes me sad that things didn't turn out differently, and made me attached to the Framework's version of Ward. When the Framework was destroyed, my first thought was that we wouldn't be seeing that Ward again. I was sad because I wanted to see Ward as a good person and was sad that wouldn't happen in real life, but thought that a fake reality was better than nothing.
I’m not entirely sure why I made this as I consider this ship second only to FitzAida, but there was just something so sad about this quote when Jemma said it in 4x18. Like for one moment her constantly hating Framework Ward wasn’t funny, she really couldn’t stand the sight of him after all he’d done when he’d started out as their friend… idk :) I just found it so sad for some reason :’(
Okay, honest question to the AOS fandom:
Would y’all be fine if Framework Ward was brought into the real world by uploading him into a LMD, thus bringing Brett back on the show as a series regular for season 5?
I mean, on one hand...it’s Ward. On the other hand, it’s a good Ward with no connections to the hated one. He’s basically a new character, he just has Grant Ward’s face.
Thoughts?
No matter how many times Framework Ward apologizes, it does not erase nor excuse what Real Ward did. This is not Real Ward apologizing for his actions posthumous to his death. He is a fictitious piece of code with a different backstory, motives, and loyalties than Real Ward. Please remember this is not a vision of the real Grant Ward apologizing for what he did in reality.
