TO KNOW / Face Shape Guide: Find Your Finest Glasses
How many hours have you spent at your optometrist’s office checking out different pairs of eyeglasses trying to find your perfect fit? Each one you try on is always too big, too small, too weird, or too wide. Before long, they all start to look the same and you’re not sure where each one ended and the other began.

Shopping for the perfect pair of eyeglasses can get frustrating—and boring—fast. Like all body types, faces come in all different shapes and sizes; and each one deserves its own special pair. How do you know which frame fits yours best? Cue MILK Eyewear’s Face Shape cheat sheet. (Psst, this’ll make sure you ace your test in figuring out which frames to include in your free At Home Try-On Kit or try with our free MILK Eyewear Mobile App).
Help! I don’t know my face shape.
If your face is…
1. Proportionate in width and length, with full cheeks, a wide forehead, rounded chin, and no angles, you have a round face.
2. Well balanced with high cheekbones and a curved jaw line that is slightly narrower than your forehead, you have an oval face.
3. Also proportional in width and length (your forehead, cheekbones, and jaw), but with angular features and a sharp jaw line, you have a square face.
4. Angled, following the contour of your face with a broad forehead, small pointed chin, and cheekbones that are high & wide, you have a heart (base up triangle) face
5. Longer than it is wide, with a lengthy forehead and nose, a straight cheek line and straight narrow chin, you have an oblong face.
6. Narrower at the forehead, but starts to widen at the cheekbones and down towards the chin area, you have a triangle (based down) face. Rule of thumb: Generally, the top third of your face is narrower than the bottom third.
Awesome! Now let’s find my perfect match.
1. The Round Companion: You look best in wide frames with rectangular or strong angular shapes. The secret is to elongate and thin out your face, while balancing out your unique and youthful features.
Your perfect pair: Dylan, Gabriel, or Riley styles
Avoid: Round shapes or super oversized frames
2. The Oval Companion: Often referred to as the “ideal face shape,” you’re blessed with a variety of frames to choose from. Frames that are as wide as (or slightly wider than) the broadest part of your face will fit better than two peas in a pod.
Your perfect pair: Jennifer, River, Skyler, or Tatum
Avoid: Frames that are too small or too large on your face
3. The Square Companion: Soft oval or round shaped frames that are narrower in width will help contrast the straight lines of your face. You can’t go wrong with frames that have upper half designs to show off your brow line and balance out the jaw line.
Your perfect pair: Olivia, Theodore, and Zoey
Avoid: boxy, angular, square, or light colored frames
4. The Heart (base up triangle) Companion: Your heart shaped face looks best in frames that broaden the chin while downplaying the forehead. Try aviators, rimless frames, or round shapes that are wider or thicker at the bottom.
Your perfect pair: Clint, Landry, or Russell
Avoid: semi-rimless bottom or thick frames that bring attention to the top half of your face
5. The Oblong Companion: We love the look of oversized frames or frames with rounded edges and curved lines on you. These works perfectly to accentuate your brow lines and soften the angularity of the face, making it appear shorter and sweeter.
Your perfect pair: Theodore, Audrey, or Harrison
Avoid: narrow, rectangular, or short frames
6. The Triangle (based down) Companion: Underplay the bottom half of your features and show off your top half (like those dreamy eyes). Opt for frames with classic rimless styles on the bottom, those wider at the top, or one made with a very light and subtle color.
Your perfect pair: Emerson, Lincoln, Isabelle, and Steven
Avoid: Frames that are wide and bold at the bottom
