Here at MILK Eyewear we make it a thing to get to know each other on a “we’re off the clock!” type of way. What better way to bond than with a tall cold glass of beer paired with delicious burgers and fries? It’s a crafty way to get our creative juices flowing for our next great idea, if you know what I mean.
Some of us consider ourselves ‘beer connoisseurs,’ so we thought it’d be fun to challenge each other with a beer tasting social. If you’re curious about what our beer palates are like, here’s what we had to say about the winning brews of the night.
For our first flight, we chose 4 different stouts
Nectar Ales Black Xantus 11.00% ABV, Boulder Shake Chocolate Porter 5.90% ABV, Struise Pannepot 10.00% ABV, Oskar Blues Ten Fidy 10.50% ABV
Boulder Shake Chocolate Porter was hands down our favorite stout of the night. It tastes exactly like what the name says – a chocolate shake. Brewed in Chocolate Wheat and cacao nibs, it’s the perfect combination of thick, creamy, and extra chocolaty. Yum…
Flight number two consisted of 4 blonde ales
The Bruery Bois 15.00% ABV, Cascade Sang Royal 9.35% ABV, Mother Earth Cali Creamin’ on Nitro 5.20% ABV, Kiuchi Hitchachino Nest Real Ginger Ale 8% ABV
Mother Earth Cali Creamin’ is what we’d call “love at first sip.” It’s a medium bodied beer that smells like ice cream and tastes like one too! The extremely smooth and extra creamy texture reminded us of a delicious scoop of vanilla ice cream. But the real kick was in the low bitter vanilla aftertaste that lingered for the perfect few seconds and made everyone go “whoa, okay.”
Our third flight consisted of 4 delicious IPAs
Ironfire Devil Within DIPA 9.50% ABV, Bagby Beer Dork Squad IPA 6.90% ABV, Saint Archer IPA 7.00%, Russian River Pliny the Elder 8.00% ABV
Some call Pliny the Elder the godfather of IPAs, and for good reason. It’s floral and piney with a grassy hint of grapefruit, combined with an amazingly crisp and minty aftertaste. Since Russian River brews a limited amount during each batch, you can bet each tall glass will be fresher and hoppier than the last. Um, can we get another glass please?
For our last - but definitely not least - flight, our kind waiter suggest his 4 favorites ales
Golden Road Hefeweizen 4.6% ABV, Boulevard Tank 8.50% ABV, Stone Saison 6.00% ABV, Maui Kihei Kolsch 5.10% ABV
Boulevard Tank won a unanimous round of applause in our ale selection. Everyone raved about how it was “light, crisp, and smooth all the way down.” Just think how perfect it’d be served icy cold (fresh from the cooler we might add!) on a sweltering hot summer’s day. Mmmh, paradise is real.
That concludes another one of our successful MILK Eyewear get togethers. We hope you had as much fun reading as we had bonding. It’s one of the ways we live our MILK Frame of Mind and lead others to do the same. And that’s what we like to call a very happy MILK Eyewear outing.

No mundane activity should be taken for granted. Just like teachers, everyone has a life outside of work and naturally we were curious about what our team did on the weekends. What do they do when they aren’t spending their time in the office, but outside in the fresh opened air? Weirdly enough, everyone excitedly gave us an inside scoop on their private weekend outings and showed us what adventures they went on with their MILK eyeglasses.
“The only reason I would be up before noon on a Sunday morning is for Sunday brunch. I like my mornings to be as relaxing and as hassle free as possible, which means no messing around with messy contacts. All I do is put on my River frames and spend the rest of my day enjoying my bottomless mimosas.
“I always like to revive my energy by doing something active before heading back to work on Monday, and this past weekend I went hiking up in the mountains. I love how my Olivia frames fit so perfectly on my face because I can wear them all day without feeling a thing. Honestly, at one point I even forgot that I was wearing them.”
“Two words: Sleep. In.”
“Living in Southern California it’s nice being able to go to the beach every weekend. How do you not when you live in a place that has 365 days of summer? My River eyeglasses tags along every single time and they’ve never been bothered by the sand, which is awesome.”
“One of the coolest perks about living in California is that I live so close to Disneyland. Since I recently renewed my Southern California Pass again I’ll go whenever I want – sometimes even right after work! I always bring my sunglasses with me to protect my eyes from being out all day. And you know what that means? More fun while riding those roller coasters!”
