Today's warm up: Playing with face shapes and the symmetry tool/gradient mapping!
i hate how when you search up a face shape on an app like pinterest or tiktok, you always see “how to fix X faceshape” instead of people you look like you.
like your face is a part of you. can we stop changing it? you’re gorgeous and it’s fine to just want to see people with the same face shape instead of people trying to “fix” it.
The right haircut for your face type
PSA: YOU DO NOT NEED TO FOLLOW THESE RULES IF ITS NOT WHAT YOU LIKE, YOU ARE NOT GOING TO LOOK BAD IF YOU DECIDE NOT TO FOLLOW THEM. Had to get that out of the way because I know I've been told i "can't" wear certain aesthetics or that i would look ugly if it doesn't match my essence. This is not true, but matching certain elements to your essence can have a harmonious effect.

I dont agree with a lot of the things beauty continuum says but i think these hairline guidelines are pretty good

I think the best thing about essences is seeing how the same thing creates a different effect on different people.
For example
Jen has a very strong natural essence which means her features are friendly, open and relaxed being mainly composed of longer rectangular shapes. This haircut does not harmonize that well with her features and face shape and she is much more iconic in her voluminous haircuts during the run of friends.
Cameron also has some natural but she has more gamine in my opinion so this hairstyle looks very different on her. The short hairstyle matches her shortened features and amplifies this cute effect. In a hairstyle similar to rachels shoulder length cut it looks very good, but it gives a more romantic effect and plays down cameron's gamine essence slightly creating a different impression.
The reason why I decided to changed Toge’s appearance the most within my AU (such as making him albino, shorter, and different brows), is because otherwise he would look too similar to how I draw Toya. •3•
I even give Toge a more rounder and sort of blockier face shape compared to Toya’s more longer and sharper face, so peeps can tell them apart easier without the colors.
I’m not gonna have another Shiho vs Mai situation on my hands again lmaooooo

What are your thoughts on the kibbe body type system? Any tips for a soft dramatic?
I think it's fairly baseless and outdated, honestly. The whole concept does really sound like what it is – a mansplanation of women's body types and features. Personally, I believe the best way to understand your features is to determine the following traits for your personal body type, proportion, and facial structure:
Body shape (a fairly useful calculator is HERE). Some more information on the different body types can be found HERE. There are some caveats here that relate to bone structure (for example, I'm a "flat-chested hourglass" essentially – the bone structure is the same as an hourglass, but my fat/muscle distribution is different than the traditional hourglass, which is classified as by having a larger bust)
Determining your proportions (longer torso and shorter legs, shorter torso/legs, balanced proportions, etc.)
Understanding where your frame is widest (e.g. broad shoulders/hips. wide ribcage) vs. where you hold the most/least fat or muscle on your body (Knowing where you gain/lose weight first can also help you answer this question)
Figure out your face shape (I think this calculator offers a good jumping-off point, but I would read some articles about the subject to confirm your particular face shape. I got my face shape (triangle) on the second try, lol) and which features are most prominent/subdued on your face (e.g. big head/small head, big/small eyes – close together/farther apart, thin or thick lips, nose size/shape, brow shape/thickness, plumpness of cheeks/jawline definition)
Then, determine which clothes/accessories/hairstyles flatter your body type and face shape/size to "balance" your head-to-toe look. E.g. if you have a pear-shaped body with slender, long arms and a square-shaped face, consider wearing a loose cami with bootcut jeans with a large pendant necklace and a bouncy, layered lob to balance/flatter all of your proportions.
Hope this helps xx
