“[David & Lisa] is a love story. As a matter of fact, just a side note...this is something I don’t talk about very much...I fell in love with Janet Margolin. I was married at the time—that marriage came to an end. I didn’t have the courage to end it, or whatever. It wasn’t meant to be. So when the film was over, I had to completely shut myself off from Janet because it was too much of an experience. From my point of view, it was all or nothing. And unfortunately it couldn’t be all...so it became nothing....I had to cut it off because it was too much. If I couldn’t have that relationship, it had to end. We didn’t contact each other for many, many years. But having said that, falling in love with her sure worked for the film.”
