Watched #PretendItsACity - @martinscorsese_ 's series of interviews with #FranLebowitz - I thought it was pretty great, funny and exploring the parts of her personality, someone somewhat caught in a different era but also hyper aware of feeling out of step with this one-with both a certain sense of humility coupled with an I-don't-give-a-fuck defiance of it existing simultaneously. When I think of a symbol of New York, its not the Statue of Liberty that pops in my head, but cultural critic and all around genius, Fran Lebowitz. She simply is New York. She tried not to like me, giving me the STANKY SIDE EYE, but when I called her out for the SHADE she was throwing, she cracked and took note of this kindred spirit. Ive always said if ever there were the most perfect guest at a dinner party, it would be her (and RBG). Her opinions are honest, she is revolutionary, she has been around, she knew EVERYONE. The shoot was too short to hear it all, wish I could get her to come back.
