Happy Birthday gettin-bi-bi-bi

This blog turns 1 whole year old today.

Now gather around and let me tell you a story, kiddos.

I created this blog for a very selfish reason which was to get rid of my own internalised biphobia. I thought if I just told enough people that their bisexuality is real and that they should start trusting themselves it would cause me to believe the same things about me and stop being this mean to myself. I knew that I would never say any of the invalidating and self-destructive things I said to myself to someone else. So why not start actually helping other bi people in order to rewire my own brain?! My plan worked and I quickly felt better about my own bisexuality. Gettin-bi was also the beginning of my queer activism which grew way beyond tumblr by now. And what grew way beyond my imagination is the blog itself. After a couple of months I couldn’t handle the asks on my own anymore and I asked my friend Max to help and then recently KC joined us as well. We’re currently going on 4k followers and I feel like I am the bisexual wine aunt to all of you. So I want to take this opportunity and say thank you to all the people who updated us on their lives, who thanked us, who told us that our advice helped them. To all the bi kids and the bi adults out there who are insecure about themselves: thanks for reaching out! Thank you for taking care of yourselves! Thank you for sharing your stories and showing those who are too shy to message us that they are not alone! I’m proud of all of you! Thank you also to Max and KC for being a great team. I don’t know what I’d do without you and I’m glad to have you as friends! The way you phrase your advice and your perspective on certain issues have certainly taught me a lot and shaped my own understanding of queerness.

I think I will stop here before I start crying and thanking my mom’s dog for never having said anything queerphobic.

What happens when you get a strike? Can you no longer earn money from that video or from any of them?

That specific video gets taken down. You have to watch a “copyright education” video and pass this quiz. If you get more than 3 strikes in 3 months, they ban you. 

So it’s not really a big deal, except they took my video down and it was my most popular one. I’m going to challenge it, but it’s a pain.
