6. What is their favorite feature of their partner’s? John gets absolutely lost in Ben’s eyes AND he likes it when Ben hasn’t shaved for a couple of days bc it adds to the ~island husband look~. sidenote: John’s a bit jealous of Ben’s hair which may be thinning as well but still looks better than any hair that John has ever had kjdfnlksjnjklstgnjbn. Ben loves John’s smile more than anything and he is very horné for his arms .......and yes, I may be projecting here, okay, don’t @ me (unless you’re Terry O’Quinn and you’re offering to hold me tight, then pls do @ me!)

10. Who remembers what the other one always orders at a restaurant? Ben remembers because he remembers everything. Remembering tiny details is part of his survival mechanism. John doesn’t even remember if they’ve been to that same restaurant before.

20. What do their family/friends think of their relationship? this is super hard to answer from a canon perspective bc they don’t really have friends or family jkdgjkdfgnjkdfnb even pre Alex’s death I just don’t think Ben would even tell her?? But if I was trying to imagine some kinda sideways-esque AU where all their parents are alive then I imagine Anthony Cooper to be the most outwardly homophobiest ass about it, Emily Locke being weird and trying to just pretend it’s not A Thing, Roger Linus also being homophobic but more in a “I don’t mind gay peple as long as they don’t shove it in my face”-way and Emily Linus being the only one who is supportive and accepting because she has the good fortune of having died before we could have seen any negative traits of hers so in my mind she’s the perfect angel that Ben certainly seems to think she is. If I add Richard into this as a close friend/father figure to Ben then I think he would be sceptical at first of whether that’s a good match or not but ultimately gets convinced that they belong together. And AU Alex is absolutely the match maker and gets these idiots to admit their feelings to each other! Maybe John gets a bisexual pep talk from Boone?

EDIT: and Sun being the best-friend-Ben-never-had would be over the moon. she would be absolutely fucking thrilled and be the biggest Bocke shipper in history!

Thank yoooooouuuuu for acknowledging that two people could experience "the same" sort of attraction and one could choose to identify as pan and the other could choose to identify as bi for their own reasons. For some reason, it makes a few people very uncomfortable that either label could apply to some people, and they want to impose a hard definition of how the labels are different. But yeesh, it's fine to just let people identify how they want and not try to do it for them, I promise.

Cont. Someone with their heart in the right place was trying to insist to me that gender does not factor into pansexual attraction but does factor into bisexual attraction (i.e. the valid experience of feeling your attraction to different genders differently). But um, no, that distinction is not useful to me personally, and I don't want to be told how "all" bis or pans feel.

Yeah, it always pisses me off when people try to find arguments that “prove” how ~different~ bi and pan are as a means to justify that they can both exist. When it’s actually perfectly fine for mspec labels to have largely overlapping meanings. Or to even be synonymous on a purely semantic level. You don’t have to make them all as different as possible to justify their existence.

Like... I’m attracted to all genders but the pan-label does nothing for me, I have no connection to it at all. I wouldn’t mind if someone thought I was pan, I’d just politely correct them because I don’t identify as that. I’m bisexual. And the reasons behind my decision have nothing to do with the amount of genders I am attracted to or with preferences. And I’m sure that there’s a Maddie in a parallel universe who experiences sexuality in exactly the same way but identifies as pan instead.

Play(s) you didn’t like?  Henry VIII is extremely skippable.  I also remember being really bored reading Love’s Labor's Lost.

Favorite “I will cause problems on purpose” character:  I’ve already said Richard III twice, but Iago’s also a very interesting, but also kind of an actual piece of shit.

Dream Shakespeare role to perform?  I had to do a Constance monologue from King John when I was in middle school and didn’t really know the context behind it, so I’d love to go back and do that role sometime :)

The Price of Magic - OUAT Witcher AU

Graham barely remembers his life as a child before he was abandoned at the home of Regina Mills, whose experiments turned him into a Witcher, a magical hunter of monsters.  He’s been hunting alone for decades, his horse Wolf his only friend.  And then suddenly there’s a bard by the name of Jefferson following him around, and silence becomes a rare commodity.

Rumpelstiltskin was cursed by his half elfen blood with a twisted spine.  Hated by his father he lived in the mud with the pigs until he was sold to Zoso and taken to Aretuza to learn magic.  From the first moment he watched a flower die to make magic happen he understood the most important lesson: all magic came with a price.  Magic, however, is power and he’ll never be at the mercy of anyone else again.

Emma is a princess.  Her parents, she knows from stories, had a fairy tale romance but they died at sea and the only family she’s ever known is her grandfather Leopold.  Her life is lonely but she loves her grandfather and they laugh together.  And then everything falls apart, her grandfather dead, her people slaughtered, and she’s alone and on the run.  All she knows is that she must find Graham, the Witcher.

Still somewhere in Massachusetts, I expect. But who really knows?

11. if you could live in any other decade, when & where would you choose?

The trouble with this is, any decade you live in will mean that you have to live through the decades that come after (if you have a decent lifespan). So if I say the 1890s, for example, I’d have to deal with the Great Depression and two world wars before I passed away. But then, any lifetime will have some Big Bad Historical Events(TM) in it, really.

If I absolutely had to pick? 1870s. Still in Boston. Being a woman, especially a gay woman, wasn’t too great back then, but there was a culture here of intellectual ladies who frequently lived together independently, and I’d know at least some of how society worked.

And once you know the rules, you learn the best way to break them.

25. What are your favorite ships from a dead fandom? - I’m not sure about dead fandoms, since all of the fandoms I’ve been in still exist. Maybe Brutus/Porcia(/Cassius) from the Julius Caesar fandom, since that’s not as active as it once was?

Hotspur, Falstaff, and Hal :)

Hello! First - I am so sorry that this took 5 million years to answer. Wonderful question - problem was, I needed to watch a few more productions of the Henriad in order to answer it to the best of my ability. I appreciate your patience as this took wayyyy too long for me to get around to. But we’re here, we did it, and we’re ready to answer. I want to answer all of these as best as I can, so thank you for allowing me to do that! Anyway, on to some love for the Henriad! 

For Hotspur, the winner is… 

Trevor White! (RSC, 2014) 

Okay, so Trevor White actually might have replaced Joe Armstrong as my favorite Hotspur. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely adore Joe Armstrong, but Trevor White absolutely killed it in this role. Before watching this performance, I always thought Hotspur was cool, but I was never really actively rooting for him across the play - I’ve always been more partial to Hal (damn it Hal, always gotta be so heckin charming). However, with Trevor White’s performance, I was totally enraptured. I got excited when I saw him walk on stage, and I got a little wistful when he left, and man was I cheering for him. I totally felt like I got a deeper sense of who Hotspur really is by watching White perform it, which was so incredibly invaluable, and not to mention, very, very helpful. It makes me really want to go back and read the Henriad all over again. (Which I probably will do, to be honest). I’m curious as to how Michelle Terry will fare this summer as Hotspur because the pictures look glorious. 

For Falstaff, the winner is… 

Roger Allam! (Shakespeare’s Globe, 2010) 

Here’s the thing that made this difficult: I have yet to see a Falstaff that I do not like. Call him a loveable character, or maybe I’ve just seen some really good productions, but everyone I’ve seen was wonderful. I loved Simon Russell Beale’s performance in The Hollow Crown - that was the first performance of the Henriad I have seen and you never forget your firsts. I adored Christopher Benjamin in The Merry Wives of Windsor (not to mention that entire cast was so sharp and so in tune with one another - it made that whole production very enjoyable). Even Antony Sher, who I am not the biggest fan of (maybe because I watched his Lear, I’m not sure), played a hilariously entertaining Falstaff. The other thing, besides just being an amazing character, that makes a Falstaff successful is his chemistry with Hal. These two actors have to be so in tune with one another, and gosh, they’ve all been incredible thus far. Tom Hiddleston and Simon Russell Beale, Alex Hassell and Antony Sher, and of course, Jamie Parker and Roger Allam: they’ve all got a wonderful stage chemistry with one another, and it makes watching this play so, so enjoyable. I just absolutely adore Allam’s comedic timing - it’s a nice change from watching him as Fred Thursday on Endeavour (which don’t get me wrong, I love it, but it’s a quite-serious detective show about murder, so not much room for laughs). He’s got a wonderful knack for being able to play father figures: Thursday and Morse (Shaun Evans), Prospero and Miranda (Jessie Buckley) /Ferdinand (Joshua James) /Ariel (Colin Morgan), and Falstaff and Hal. This comedic timing comes back in The Tempest, where I think Allam killed it as Prospero. I can’t wait until he does a whole production as Lear (might be a few years). I know there are clips out there, but I’m pretty sure those are just scenes. 

And finally, for my darling Hal, the winner is… 

Alex Hassell! (RSC, 2014) 

God, every time I return to the Henriad, I am reminded just how much I absolutely adore Hal. I adore him. He’s such an amazing character and I will fight to say that he’s the best English king there ever was. No doubt about it. While I don’t think anything can top Jamie Parker’s Hal (which was extraordinary) - at least for me, anyway, Hassell’s performance was a joy to watch. I’m pretty Globe biased (guilty as charged), but this 2014 RSC performance was amazing - totally blew me away. Hassell had charm, and wit, and honesty, and there was such a beautiful genuineness to his performance. And of course, paralleled with Trevor White, these two were like dynamite on that stage, especially during their fight scenes. (And they bowed together?! like… I was crying at the end of that because that’s all that needed to happen). 

Anyway, I’m going to go cry about the Henriad some more while I read it again.
