Stumbled upon this remarkable building by Frederick Gibberd. Riverdale House in Lewisham was built in the 1980s as an office building. Recently it was converted into.. you guessed it — swanky flats! Due to the current situation there's increasing talk of businesses cutting their office space and letting people work from home long term. Will this lead to conversion of the abundant office buildings to residential use? Possibly. Is it a good idea? Probably not. The relaxed planning laws made such conversions easier and helped to deliver more flats to the starved market. But they also allowed developers to sell and rent extremely sub-standard units. Like flats half the size of a hotel room, with windows that don't open.
