The 14th century Torre di Re Federico is the bell tower of the adjacent Real Chiesa Madrice Insigne Collegiata or Real Duomo at Erice near Trapani, Italy. Both were built at the behest of Frederick III of Aragon.

Fritz was the only son of Emperor Wilhelm I who died on March from the same year, therefore Emperor Frederick ruled for 99 days between March and June of 1888, the Year of the Three Emperors. At seven the next morning, someone brought the dying Kaiser the bouquet of flowers he had ordered for his daughter Sophie's birthday. He had planned a family celebration, a boating picnic on the Havel. But Vicky scarcely left his side that day, writing out his whispered fears when he could not do it himself : ' What is happening to me ? ' Are the doctors content with me ?'. She sent for Henry and Irene and Charlotte and Bernhard. Willy and Dona arrived, giving orders 'left and right' and generally taking 'possession of the palace.'
