Fritz was the only son of Emperor Wilhelm I who died on March from the same year, therefore Emperor Frederick ruled for 99 days between March and June of 1888, the Year of the Three Emperors. At seven the next morning, someone brought the dying Kaiser the bouquet of flowers he had ordered for his daughter Sophie's birthday. He had planned a family celebration, a boating picnic on the Havel. But Vicky scarcely left his side that day, writing out his whispered fears when he could not do it himself : ' What is happening to me ? ' Are the doctors content with me ?'. She sent for Henry and Irene and Charlotte and Bernhard. Willy and Dona arrived, giving orders 'left and right' and generally taking 'possession of the palace.' That night, Vicky slept in a chaise longue just outside her husband's door, where she could watch him without his knowing.June 15, 1888 – Death of Frederick III, German Emperor and King of Prussia. He began to die at ten o'clock the next morning. His children came into the room. Vicky sat on his bed and kept talking softly to him. When he was thirsty, she gave him white wine on a sponge to suck. She asked if he was tired. ' Oh, very, very ! ' he replied. He himself wrote out the last entry in his diary - 'Victoria, me, the children...' - before lapsing into unconsciouness. 'Gradually his dear eyes took on a different. look !' Vicky wrote later.' We held a light up... but he did not blink at all; I raised his dear hand and he let it drop of itself !' Moretta knelt by his bed in tears. 'He no longer seemed conscious,' Vicky said, ' coughed hard once more, took a deep breath three times, then gave an involuntary jerk and closed his eyes tight and convulsively as if something was hurting him ! Then everything was quiet !' Friedrich died shortly after 11:00 a.m. on June 15, 1888, in the palace in which he had been fifty-six years before.🔽👇 #frederickiii #vickyprincessroyal #prussia https://www.instagram.com/p/Ce1xDhMs4rj/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
