So i’ve gotten my cat used to wearing her harness, and she’s always looking outside/standing at the door, but when I take her outside she seems overwhelmed. Do you know a way i can help her with that?

Is there a busy street or something by your door? She might be overwhelmed by all the new sights, smells, and sounds. If it’s possible to introduce her to the outdoors somewhere quieter (a backyard or balcony, for example) that might help her adjust easier.

If it isn’t possible to introduce her outside in a quiet place, you could try luring her outside with high-value treats. Make it seem like it was her idea to step outside as to build her confidence, instead of picking her up and placing her outside. Continue with the high value treats until she seems relaxed outdoors.

So long as she is comfortable with the carrier, you could try sitting with her outside while she is in the carrier (still feeding her those high value treats of course!). By doing that she will feel more secure as she gets used to the outdoors. Then you can transition to the harness once she is more comfortable.

As I’m sure you’re doing, just make sure to go at her own pace! Even just sitting by the open door or by an open window as she gets used to the outside is progress. Take baby steps and celebrate the small achievements! Good luck!
