week 3: Free-Pitching

this week we simulated a 'free-pitch' and discussed the pitfalls of free pitching. free pitching as defined my the design institute of Australia;

"Free pitching is a term used to describe the supply of design services without payment.

Free pitching may be initiated by a customer who requests the provision of free services, or it may be initiated by a designer who provides free services in the hopes of later payment.

Free pitching is condemned by professional design organisations around the world.

Free pitching undermines the value of design services and destroys the professional standing of designers."

in class we split into groups, each group given a different scenario, but the same brief. we had to develop a variety of different ideas to pitch to the theoretical client. the group representing 'freelancing' design was chosen simply due to the fact that their design was the cheapest. we also learnt that once the designers show their design the client may not even use this design, leaving the designers without pay, and thier idea may be stolen.

conclusion, do not free pitch to client!
