JUST SO YA'LL KNOW WHY I SUPPORT THE STRIKE! Thousands of workers will walk off the job on Tuesday at Amazon warehouses in Germany to demand better working conditions, joining colleagues in Spain and Poland in taking action that coincides with a major sales promotion.
Amazon workers have reportedly struggled with difficult conditions like unbearable temperatures, timed bathroom breaks, and dehydration (Amazon has denied these claims, although it did install air conditioning in SOME warehouses in 2012 following investigations into poor working conditions)
Stories of warehouse working conditions around the globe have been well documented over the years, with many accounts of troubling work conditions, long hours, and restrictions on overtime pay, time off, and even bathroom breaks. According to British journalist James Bloodworth, who went undercover as an Amazon worker for his book Hired: Six Months Undercover in Low-Wage Britain, warehouse workers were peeing into bottles to avoid missing their targets and nearly three out of every four Amazon warehouse workers avoided using the restroom to meet quotas, while more than half of all surveyed workers reported mental health issues since taking the job. The CEO's worth surpassed $150 billion the other day. They can afford to let their workers pee, seriously.
