Buckhorn Panel PART 1, Emery County, UT. More well-known pictographs, but still worth checking out again. Some people see angels in this first panel, but I feel like assigning Christian meaning to these panels is very Anglo-centric and inaccurate. The true meaning of the winged figures is unknown, and will likely remain that way. It’s so easy and tempting to see similarities with modern religious imagery and apply that to rock art, but the truth is, very little is known about the meaning or even the people who made these. Isn’t it enough that these figures evoke feelings and emotions in us without having to assign a specific explanation as to what or why or how. Make up your own stories and find the connections that speak to you personally, but know those words are YOUR OWN, and most of us cannot speak for what these images truly mean. The mystery is enough for me, and the beauty of the figures more than makes up for any other questions that will forever be left unanswered. . . . . . . #utah #rockart #pictographs #barriercanyon #fremontindian #archaeology #nativeamerican #Utahspots #utahunique #youtah #utahisrad #Utahgram #visitutah #werutah #wowutah #naturalutah #utahillustrated (at Fatty's) https://www.instagram.com/p/CF7p_vMF-pt/?igshid=14s0kyoj8imf5
