RIP Kavinsky, aka Vincent Belorgey (31 July 1975 – 28 July 2026)

When I first moved into my own apartment in 2010, the French house music of the time was part of my newly expanding life. Daft Punk was doing the soundtrack for Tron Legacy, Justice released Audio Video Disco, and Kavinsky made the Nightcall EP . The various artists crafting narrative personas around their music careers was fascinating to me, and Kavinsky's street racing zombie was no exception.

Do you listen to any specific music when you work?

Sort of yea, it depends! My "background music" is typically Samba, Bossa Nova, Japanese Jazz Fusion, or anything rhythmic like those genres. I don't focus too hard on the music and it's "easy" to listen to so I don't get caught fixating on flipping through songs. Yawakara Jazz and Humano Studios on YouTube have been my favorites.

I do have a Spotify though thats literally none of the above things and about a million different playlists that encapsulates my I guess "real" taste in music.
