Treasuries from Stoffenspektakel
I had great afternoon yesterday in Barneveld (NL) where the fall edition of Stoffenspektakel took place. The most important part of this afternoon was meeting with Marianne from Fox Gloves and Thimbles blog – very intimate Bloggers meeting. It took some time before we eventually met – but we have managed. We have met at the stand of Kruyff v.o.f. who sells high quality couture fabrics. Mrs.…

Vogue Dress V2888 #2 ready
It was difficult to pick up and finish this project having such a wonderful sunny weather. The Vogue V2888 #2 dress is ready and now I can enjoy wearing it – together with my French jacket.
Better pictures will follow.

First steps towards the next French jacket
This time I make my French jacket based on the new Claire Shaeffer’s Vogue pattern -V8991 (Misses’/Misses’ Petite Jacket).
Few days ago I have traced the pattern and made muslin.
Being busy with the Vogue V2888 dress I have just in between tested the muslin.

It's alive!
I haven't been uploading much to tumblr lately, nor have I been taking that many photographs really, but I have been busy. Over the last 6 weeks or so I taught myself to make my own clothes, at first just following sewing patterns and more recently drafting my own patterns. This is the first jacket I drafted and sewed entirely on my own, Heather affectionately dubbed it the 'Franken' jacket as my first mock-up was patched together out of whatever scraps of fabric I had lying about.
Its been really interesting learning about what shapes work and what don't and how to do those fiddly bits like pockets etc. This jacket design was inspired by the French bleu de travail worker jacket, but with a few minor alterations such as the curve-collar and double welt pockets on the hips rather than the usual patch-pockets. The cuffs are double-pleated and buttonless and there is a curved patch-pocket on the chest, its made entirely from heavyweight cotton twill. It's not perfect but for a first attempt I'm quite pleased with it.
The two photos with the blue jacket show the final thing, the creamy-coloured jacket was one of three toiles or mock-ups that I constructed before making the final one.
