So David and Yuna are not privy to the psychosexual torment nexus Ilya and Shane have got going on but they know their friendship is a little,,, volatile, because Shane isn't great at hiding it when he's hurt/angry at Ilya. They've kind of been preparing for a while for some kind of friendship-ending fight.

They don't suspect that Shane might be gay, because Shane is dating way more girls in this verse than he does in canon (to get attention from Ilya). It's a shock to them when Shane and Ilya come home one day like surprise! We're in love (and potentially engaged, I don't think Shane is telling his parents until the relationship is fairly settled).

It kind of reframes their entire history in David and Yuna's eyes and eases some concerns while doubling others. Ultimately they decide to be supportive (they really don't want Shane to think him being gay is a problem) but they're privately worried for the first few months, until it becomes clear how serious Shane and Ilya are about this and how happy they make each other.

I don't think a threesome is in the cards because sex with women is miserable to Shane and he doesn't want Ilya there to witness it, and once Shane actually accepts his sexuality he's also accepted his attraction to Ilya and knows he doesn't want to share him.

Ilya suggests it all the time, though, just to be a little cruel.

Shane and Sveta actually grow closer because Ilya is ignoring Sveta and Shane is kinda annoyed at him for acting this way, so they hang out more one-on-one (it also makes Ilya jealous, which Shane likes). Sveta apologizes for using him to make Ilya mad and Shane tells her it's fine (he's relieved, because it sounds like she definitely doesn't want a repeat performance).

In the toxic friendship AU, surely after Shane breaks off their friendship, Ilya takes vindictive pleasure in at least having broken up him and his girlfriend who doesn’t deserve him, only to crash out when he finds out Shane took her back … right?

It’s not fair! Why does he get cut off and not her!? Does he really mean less to Shane than some girl??? (He means much more, which is why Shane bear to look at him)

Shane doesn't break off their friendship. He doesn't even stay mad at Ilya for that long! Once Ilya's guilt gets the best of him and he actually apologizes, Shane accepts it pretty much immediately.

It's actually what leads to the girlfriend ending the relationship for real, because she thinks it's weird and uncomfortable that Shane is still best friends with the guy she cheated on him with.

(Which Ilya takes a lot of vindictive pleasure in lmao.)

maybe in frenemies svetlana lives with Ilya’s family in the summers? and she and ilya get close in an imperfect family wanting for love way that Shane can’t understand and they’ll include him if he comes over but tbh svetlana doesn’t really see what ilya sees in him besides being good at hockey? and Shane sometimes sits awake at night thinking about ilya and svetlana getting married and moving to russia and never speaking to him again. and then ilya has a casual sex thing with her where they dated one summer but decided they wouldn’t try long distance and there’s some drama about next summer they still feel things about each other while trying to kiss other people but they end up still casually making out and having sex sometimes. and ilya tells him all of this. because they are friends. ilya sometimes has sex with her and after they sit on the couch watching the hockey game and eating fritos. it doesn’t make sense for Shane to hate her. if they got married they would have beautiful children together. and Ilya says they have really good sex. and that it’s really nice to have sex with someone you know and care for. so it would be wrong for Shane to feel nauseous thinking about it. summers are the worst if she wasn’t there Ilya would be doing handstands in the pool to show off for Shane instead of her.

I love Sveta being there in the summers and her and Ilya having this messy on-and-off relationship. I think she'd like Shane, though, because I have a huge soft spot for their friendship <3 But Shane does definitely have anxious thoughts about Ilya and Sveta getting married and leaving him in the dust.

Also! I think Shane should lose his virginity to Sveta. Ilya has just done something to really piss her off and she's picked up on his thing for Shane (not that she or any of them fully comprehend what that thing is or how deep it runs) so she decides to fuck Shane as revenge.

Shane agrees for a variety of messy, slightly fucked up reasons (he's getting back at Ilya for all the girls he "stole" from Shane, he feels ashamed about still being a virgin, he wants to prove to himself that he's straight, he wants to sleep with Ilya and this is as close as he thinks he's ever gonna get). And it's actually not as terrible as it could be because Sveta senses Shane's nerves and is really gentle with him, but it also is terrible because obviously Shane doesn't actually want to fuck any girl.

In the aftermath Shane expects Ilya to be angry with him and is fully prepared to call him a hypocrite for it but Ilya is furious with Sveta. He feels like she stole something from him, and he can't even articulate what. He doesn't forgive her before she leaves and when she comes back the next summer, all three of them pretend like none of it ever happened.

(They hash it out years later when Sveta jokingly suggests bringing it up in her best woman speech.)

Re childhoods friends au I imagine like a girl pursuing Shane and he's like okay she liked me first/she really wants ME so Obviously she won't cheat on me with Ilya. But as it turns out the boys aren't subtle and she just knew that dating Shane was the easiest way to get Ilya's attention (that's who she really wanted)

(Idk what her motivation is for going about it the hard way maybe she tried hitting on Ilya first but he didn't care hmm i wonder why. Or maybe she just likes causing problems and wow these boys in her class have Such Good emotional warfare potential)

Let the girls get messy with it too why not!! Maybe she tells Ilya this after they fuck and Ilya goes immediately cold and furious and tells her to get out. She gets angry back because she wasn't expecting this reaction and she goes why are you acting like this I thought you hated that guy! And Ilya says of course I don't hate him he's my best friend and she says well why do you keep fucking him over then. Maybe he's the one you want to be fucking.

She doesn't really think that, she just says it to piss him off and to have the last word before she storms out, but it kind of sets a bomb off in Ilya's head because fuck, do all the girls know he's thinking about Shane while he's fucking them???
