Making a Latte at Home

I've been very fortunate to be busy working on several projects for several events this month. A bridal shower, a birthday party and a large order of "thank you gifts" for corporate clients. 

I always love to focus on enjoying your coffee at home and many of the items I sell (obviously the fresh roasted coffee) is to be made AND enjoyed at home. A week ago we made a simple Iced Latte at home.... Now let's make and enjoy a Hot Latte. 

Although I have an espresso machine, I wanted to make a latte with simple tools everyone has at home. I used my Moka Pot and I took one of our "Thanks A-Latte" bags we sell and used the flavoring, coffee and whisk. The Moka Pot is a wonderful "go-to" for brewing an espresso style coffee. The one I have is a 6 cup espresso pot and they are available in a variety of sizes. Whats nice...they are not expensive at all. However, you can brew up regular coffee...or brew a strong cup of coffee and make more of a Cafe Au Lait. (1/2 coffee and 1/2 milk) 

The key to the latte is the milk. I use 2% milk. Its ideal when steaming/frothing in an espresso machine. Its great too on the stove. Its about heating up the milk and whisking the milk to aerate (introducing air). You don't want to over heat the milk because you will begin to scorch the milk and lose the sweetness. 

I made a brief video below (very amateur) showing the heating and whisking of the milk. I like more of a "wet" style latte. Where the milk resembles "wet paint" verses a ton of froth making it drier. 

I am working on our Fall/Holiday catalog showcasing many of our unique gifts of coffee and sweets. Our "Thanks A-Latte" bag gets an update for the Fall season too. How about a "Trick-Or-Latte" bag for your favorite teacher, co-worker or friend? We offer our wonderful fresh roasted coffee, a whisk, directions on making a latte and a mini bottle of flavoring. The flavorings this season are Caramel, Hazelnut, Vanilla and Peppermint. The pumpkin Spice mini bottles are not available this year...unless we have a HUGE order. So if you need for a large event, we would be able to get a hold of the mini Pumpkin Spice bottles.

Turquoise Trail Now Lolita's Blend

I know I have caused a bit of confusion over the last several weeks with our customers. I apologize that I didn't forward people of the name change of our favorite "House" coffee. Turquoise Trail is now called Lolita's Blend. So, why the name change? 

Because I love making you all crazy...(wink wink, smiley face). Seriously...my goal is NOT to make you crazy. So I am truly sorry that I had people in a panic. I received several calls and emails asking why I was no longer making Turquoise Trail?!!! Why would I remove that  blend from our line up of coffee. That was their favorite coffee!!! 

On our website, I guess I didn't make it very clear that it was still the same wonderful blend only the name had changed. I didn't realize when you go to the shopping page that people are seeking Turquoise Trail and not seeing that listed, they assumed it was gone. It's not it just has a new name. 

So, why the name change? Johnny and I have discussed this ad nauseam. He always wanted me to name the blend after me, since I was the one that created it. I was always looking for a different name other than mine. So for the last 3+ years, I have been listening to Johnny tell me that I should use my name. 

Well, I finally gave in. It is STILL the rich delicious flavor you have enjoyed with Turquoise Trail. The ONLY thing that has changed is the name... I love this coffee. It is a blend of two high quality single origin beans delivering a smooth full body and rich taste. You can taste the smooth richness of cocoa, caramel/nutty flavor with a slight citrus finish. We roast each single origin bean separately, roasting one dark and one medium roast. A wonderful combination for any coffee lover. 

It is our #1 seller and it is not going anywhere. I appreciate all of my loyal customers and friends who were upset for removing Turquoise Trail coffee. It's there with a new name...Lolita's Blend.

Coffee & Cocktails. My Two Favorite "C" Words

Yes, Coffee & Cocktails...my favorite two C's in the world and both contain coffee. Maybe I was brought up way to young drinking coffee. Thank God I had cool parents (wink wink smiley face) that allowed me to enjoy coffee at an early age. It didn't stunt my growth and nowadays research and studies are finding more and more great reasons to drink coffee. (Can I have an Amen)  

I truly love it....its liquid L❤️VE in a cup. However, I do enjoy a cup of coffee in the evening with an extra kick every once in awhile, don't you? When I graduated and moved to Southern California, I spent a lot of time at the coast. For a time I had a studio apartment in Corona Del Mar right on the Pacific Coast Highway and a couple of blocks from the beach. My studio apartment sat above two restaurants, Coco's, if you're not familiar it's a great all around restaurant, like a Denny's. The other was a windfall French bakery and cafe. Who needed to cook? I enjoyed these luxuries.

Sorry...I digress...anyway in Southern California I loved hanging at at the coastal bars outdoors any time of year. And it didn't matter, spring, summer fall or winter it's always cool beachside. I always enjoyed a nice hot coffee cocktail. 

So in preparing for cooler nights, (let's be serious, in AZ they won't be coming for awhile). Let me rephrase that....So in preparing for an evening with friends and family enjoying time together at home or the weather for you is turning cooler, here are some quick and simple "Hot coffee with a kick" to enjoy. Some of these you are familiar with but just in case, here are the recipes. 

Mexican Coffee

1 cup of hot coffee

3/4 shot Kahlua

3/4 shot Tequila

Whipped Cream

Pour coffee over liqueurs & top with whipped cream. Garnish with a cherry if you like.

Spanish Coffee

1 cup of hot coffee

1/2 oz Tia Maria

1/2 oz Rum

Whipped Cream

Add liqueur and coffee. Top with whipped cream and garnish with a cherry.

Amaretto Coffee  A favorite of mine

1 cup of hot coffee

1 1/2 shots Amaretto liqueur

1/4 cup lightly whipped cream

1/2 tspn toasted, sliced almonds

Pour hot coffee into a preheated brandy snifter and stir in the liqueur. Top with whipped cream and almonds, if desired.

I don't know about you but I have an incredible L❤️VE for Grand Marnier and I have a cool series/video of great coffee drinks with Grand Marnier coming soon. I know, I know, I have a huge problem....it's called being Irish🍀
