Maybe I'm just stupid and didn't understand everything bit of nuance in dawtde but like a third of posts I see about Der and Avery are making jokes about them being codependent

I am all for toxic or unbalanced relationships/friendships that end in tragedy (my favorite dynamic actually mmmm) but will someone please explain to me the logic behind calling them codependent? Again, maybe I'm legit stupid and am not remembering dawtde right but they don't seeeeem like they fit the description...
