I had a sudden revelation and rewrote an info-dumping paragraph in my still unfinished chapter from Caveat into something that feels more natural.

By the end of her explanation, Lucanis' dour expression turned grim as he adjusted one of the cuff-links on his sleeves. "First Antaam, and now Venatori." He looked conflicted, as if unsure if he should be offended or impressed by such a development. "This does not bode well."

Isotta made a thoughtful noise of agreement, folding her arms as they walked. Apparently, much had happened in her sabbatical from Antiva. The most concerning one being House Kortez's attempts to sabotage and eliminate the other leaders of the Crows. Three Talons. Gone, and all at the whim of the Antaam wanting an easy invasion of Antiva.

As to the Fifth Talon's fate… Isotta wanted to ask, truly. However, she had figured one of two things were bound to happen. Either Lucanis would remind her he was dead to the rest of the world (for still unknown reasons) and didn't know, or ask her how much time they had before Torven returned, and still say he didn't know.

But as if reading her mind, Lucanis spoke up in the long silence that followed. "He's fine, by the way."

She had decided to play dumb by adopting a furrowed look. "'He' who?"

The Crow sent her a knowing yet not unkind look. "Viago."

"Ah," she kept her face still, despite the relief that blossomed behind her chest. "I have no doubt he's fine. He's been preparing for such events for how many years now?"

A thought came to her, causing a corner of her lip to twitch upwards in an aching fondness. "Although, I imagine he is going to be even more insufferable about it all."

A snort— a loud one— had answered, and it had kept all her willpower not to grin at how exasperated it came across. "He already has. He kept the adder and named him Emil."

"Emil—as in he named him after the Talon?"
