Swedish poet Erik Axel Karlfeldt (July 20, 1864- 1931) is one of only two posthumous Nobel Laureates. He was a popular poet in Sweden, not least due to the songs he wrote about Fridolin, his peasant alter ego who basks in the glory of the Swedish countryside and its soul.

Here is the manuscript of Karlfeldt’s 1925 poem “Vårnatt” (Spring Evening), which later appeared, re-titled “Aftonbönn” (Evening Prayer) in his collection Hösthorn (Harvest Horn) in 1927...
