Big Fish Games terminates contracts with GrandMA Studios and Friendly Fox
(this is a repost from my post from Reddit, but thought this was important enough to share here too)
Big Fish Games has silently ended their contracts with GrandMA Studios and Friendly Fox a few days ago, both HOPA developers since 2012. Sources linked at the bottom of this post.
For GrandMA, due to only working for Big Fish Games for over a decade and nothing else, many of their employees will unfortunately lose their jobs. GrandMA's artists have already posted on LinkedIn about Big Fish cutting ties with the studio and how they're looking for new work. These artists mostly have updated their profiles to list themselves as no longer working for GrandMA this year. Ukrainian news articles state GrandMA will most likely have to cancel 5-6 games, likely including the to-be-released Whispered Secrets 18: Echoes of the Past that was in beta just a month ago.
For Friendly Fox, according to Ukrainian news articles, they are sustainable enough to continue their activities without Big Fish's involvement. It is unclear whether they can work on IPs like Living Legends, Bridge to Another World, Dark City, and so on without Big Fish as their publisher. Friendly Fox's social media is still active while GrandMA's isn't.
According to the Ukrainian news articles, Big Fish seems to have made this decision due to a change in owners (yet again) after being quietly sold by Aristocrat Leisure, which is confirmed to be their intention since early this year in a PocketGamerBiz article.
Big Fish also has a public job listing on LinkedIn confirming they are "building a new internal game development studio focused on premium-quality casual games, including Hidden Object, HOPA, Time Management, and Puzzle titles". This is under the name BFG Entertainment, which is also their new name on Steam. It is possible Big Fish prioritized this new internal studio over their outsourcing studios, hence this decision.

Some more updates on Big Fish Games
(some screenshots and sources are linked in my Reddit post at the bottom of this post b/c I'm too lazy to re-include everything again)
GrandMA's contract is still dead. Former artists have posted their work from cancelled projects, including Whispered Secrets 18, Whispered Secrets 19, and the second full sequel to Mystery Case Files: Madame Fate (concept art of some locations and redesigns of the carnies already existed).
Friendly Fox's contract appears fine? They have neither confirmed nor denied their contract with Big Fish being in danger, but they promoted their latest game on Big Fish's website, so it seems they're still set to release PC HOPAs there.
Elephant Games' contract is more uncertain but seems fine? They have made official statements about Big Fish kicking them out of developing their F2P HOG Midnight Castle and have replied to comments saying they have "no information" on their PC HOPA sequels. Their newest Grim Tales game is still being promoted on Big Fish's website but Elephant Games hasn't made an official statement about that yet. Elephant Games also seems to be going through some very recent layoffs according to a couple former employees' LinkedIns.
A lot of prices of Big Fish Games' published games on Steam doubled. Any Standard Edition games less than $10 are now $10. Any Collector's Editions games that were $10 or $13 are now $20.
The free trials of recent PC games from Big Fish's website have been reduced from 60-90 minutes to 25 minutes.
Big Fish Games has had a new owner, BFG Entertainment, since October 2025.
BFG Entertainment has made a LinkedIn post looking to recruit developers, artists, and a composer for their new internal studio, making it the first time Big Fish will develop in-house since 2012 with Mystery Case Files: Shadow Lake.
