Reblog to scare an FF14 Raider
So happy to be a finalist in the EU Fanfest art contest 🙏 Consider dropping me a vote if you're able to...!
This is basically a tribute to M6S and how much trouble it gave our static... progging it definitely felt like a journey! Thank u to them for the inspiration and making this fight so memorable and "Fun" lmao... 🥹
Indulge me, gang.
Wolf has the same energy as this guy, the Friendly Yan from Final Fantasy IX.
This is the Friendly Yan:
Who is the Friendly Yan, you ask? At the end of a sidequest where you give items to various ‘friendly’ enemies (they don’t attack you and a special tune even plays when you encounter them to indicate that hey, something’s up). The Friendly Yan will only appear on a high-level enemy island and will only interact with players properly if you have encountered all other friendly enemies and given them the items they requested.
What does this cutie want, you might ask? A diamond. Well, kinda expensive, but they’re not too uncommon in the game. At the point of encountering him most players will probably have a spare in their inventory to give the little guy.
But what if you ATTACK the Friendly Yan, or simply refuse to give him what he’s asking for?
Well, he’ll turn around and deal the single-most strongest physical attack IN THE GAME. MORE THAN THE SECRET SUPERBOSSES (THAT ARE NAMED AFTER THE LIKES OF FREAKIN’ HADES THE FREAKIN GOD OF THE UNDERWORLD-).
You think that’s bad? WELL ONE OF HIS MOVES CAN PERMANENTLY REMOVE ONE OF YOUR PARTY MEMBERS FROM THE BATTLE.
Every time you attack him with physical damage? HE CASTS SILENCE ON YO ASS (so unless you’re immune to this status, you now can’t cast magic).
This is how I think of Wolf. Nicest, sweetest guy in the world. But get on his bad side and BAM tougher than a Dozer.
I will be taking no further questions.
Jack read my name on Off Topic and just like Ryan he can’t say it right either lmao
AH, please play Final Fantasy IX!!! It’s the best game ever and the not friendly yans will fuuuuck you up! The friendly ones are awesome though 😜
Solution 9 Cartomancy
Cross-posting my research here from Bluesky:
This is NOT the Deck of Sixty from Eorzea. That system does not have a 9 numbered pip according to Encyclopedia I, yet we see one here.
The querent with the 1, 2, and 3 cards revealed is told "Alas, the signs are rather dire. You must make efforts to lead a life of temperance." This indicated lower numbers are lack.
The querent with the 6, 9, and 8 cards turned over is told "The stars are with you, may your life shine just as brightly!" This indicates higher numbers are good fortune.
Thus we can conclude that it's a simple 9 card divination system. As far as I can tell, none of this lines up with anything esoteric, it's a system of "low bad, high good." Probably because it's meant to just be an easter egg reference to the Yan from FF9.
The Yan and Friendly Yan are also on the outside of the building.
I have no idea how the reader decides which cards to flip over, however. There is nothing else on the table like a 9 sided die or a pendulum, so it's possible she picks them based on vibes. There's also the possibility she is the "scam fortune teller" stereotype and picks intentionally.
