Idk why but I keep thinking about what a Friendlypack Corpse Bride AU would seem like (possible spoilers if you’ve never watched Corpse Bride):
This would probably be set in Victorian times like in the movie.
Stan is supposed to marry some beautiful woman but ruins the wedding rehearsal by stuttering/forgetting how to say the vows, dropping the ring, and almost setting fire to the dress of the mother of the woman he's supposed to marry, etc.
He flees into the woods to have some alone time to calm down, but he then pulls himself together and recites the vows perfectly without stuttering. He says the final line of the vows (“With this ring, I ask you to be mine.”) as he places the wedding ring on a branch that looks like a hand sticking out of the ground.
The supposed branch twitches and grabs Stan by the wrist, pulling him down to the snowy ground. After fighting the branch off, Stan manages to break free...but the branch just so happens to be part of a boney arm.
The ground where the hand came from starts to break apart as someone, or something, tries to crawl out. Then up from the ground appears an actual male corpse in tattered groom’s clothing, and the corpse looks at Stan and whispers “I do.”
Stan runs away in fright, but the corpse pursues after him. No matter how fast Stan runs, the corpse ends up catching up to him, saying to Stan “You may kiss the groom.” before kissing him into a void of darkness. (But in reality, Stan just ended up fainting.)
A whole musical/dance number comes about detailing that when the corpse was alive, he was going to get married to another man but ends up tragically being murdered by him. While this is taking place, Stan escapes, but the corpse groom notices and goes looking for him again.
When the corpse ends up finding him, Stan thinks he’s gonna hurt him but in reality, he just wants to sit and chat.
Turns out the corpse groom’s name is Jimmy.
Now, this is where the AU somewhat differs from the real movie:
Stan overhears from a friend who’s just died and arrived in the Land of the Dead that the woman he was supposed to marry is going to marry someone else.
Turns out the vows Stan said aren’t official since only Jimmy is deceased while Stan isn’t. The only way to make the “marriage” the real deal is for Stan to repeat the vows and drink a wine that’ll instantly kill him.
Jimmy is worried about telling this to Stan in fear of him leaving Jimmy. Stan actually overhears this and agrees to do it. Not just because the marriage to the woman is off the table, but it’s also because he’s ended up falling in love with Jimmy and wants to stay with him.
So the only reason Stan returns to the Land of the Living is to repeat his vows to Jimmy, before drinking the wine and dying right away.
With now both Stan and Jimmy being dead, they live happily ever after in the Land of the Dead.
