What if we were two mysteries that unmistakably intertwine with one another and therefore one smile cannot be thought of without the other. What if one of us cast the other mystery into the same spotlight as them by having a connection to him made through something as simple as the prefix of "device_". What if we were both constant omnipresent forces that revel in knowing people want to find us
friend x gaster BUT! ☝️ gaster falls in love with friend because he made it to contain a piece of him and he loves seeing himself in his own work. like if narcissus made a pond.
Friendster was the first social network. It has a long history, but the website friendster.com went dead in 2015 and the company officially…
This guy bought Friendster, an early social media network. Possibly the first one, ever, if you don't count usenet or dial-up BBSes which have existed since the early 1980s.
Friendster has been dead for over a decade, but he bought the domain for $30K and is planning to retool it for modern times.
No algorithm, no ads. All paid for out of pocket. Mike Carson talks about maybe making it pay for itself (someday) but right now he's just having fun with it.
So far, so good, right? Except...
It's an iPhone app only. Android users can fuck off.
The website exists only to create/curate your account, and is mostly a dodge to qualify it for the Apple store. You see, Apple won't host the app unless there's a web presence, otherwise it's just a limited-use gimmick.
While you can login to friendster.com and create an account, the only way to add friends is to tap phones. Literally, touch your iPhone to another iPhone that has the app installed. This is to verify you're a real person (not a bot) but also to make sure you're a "real friend". Because the only friends that matter are the ones in close physical proximity, he says.
Wow. Just, wow. There is so much wrong with this world view I don't even know where to begin. And the smugness with which he expresses his weird beliefs is stunning.
