I have found an older fic series called “ the hand beneath your head “ by @frijae.
It is unflinchingly violent. There is non-con (done to our protagonists not by). It reads like a torture scene from a Quentin Tarantino movie followed by ruthless retribution and unmitigated PTSD.
It is a love story. A hurt/comfort story that makes me realize that I don’t inherently dislike hurt/comfort stories with 00q, if the comfort is dealt almost as violently as the hurt it’s trying to comfort from.
The writer herself says she doesn't know how to write a comforting Bond, and I think that’s exactly what makes it so successful. Bond is not a comforting character. He’s a psychopathic killer who has been betrayed by people he trusted more times than he could count. He carries out his care for Q physically through dressing his wounds and emotionally through dealing with trauma, which he himself would have plenty of experiences with.
Q, on the other hand, looks for salvation and love in the fact that Bond can kill him in the most effective way possible, should the need arise.
“A quartermaster who will die for his agent. An agent who kills for his quartermaster.” These two sentences pretty much sums up exactly how I imagine their love, if they do love, would work. No sentiments, no frills, a bright and intense declaration buried under the grimmest of circumstances.
I highly recommend this series if you’re up for it. Even if you’re not a 00q fan. Just make sure you have some fluff to recover from afterwards. Or perhaps a cup of tea.
