A very talented artist friend of mine introduced me to this shell in the comments section discussing my Facebook post of my latest design attempt. Lo and behold--it also happens to be a Tamagotchi shell. (View it here.) They had a somewhat similar concept for their tattoo, (a Tamagotchi shell...can you tell we’re FANS,) and they showed me the shell on which it was based. It is their favourite, and I, too, became enamoured.
Hobby friends are the freaking best, and we are terrible, amazing influences on each other.
Usually, Tamagotchi art of this era is of a different style. While there are many patterns that stray away from simple patterns of hearts or stars, delving into camouflage and lightning bolts, they are still very playful and youthful. While “Yukata Blue” is light-hearted, there is something more mature about this piece.
“Traditionally yukata were mostly made of indigo-dyed cotton but today a wide variety of colors and designs are available.[3] As with kimono, the general rule with yukata is that younger people wear bright, vivid colors and bold patterns, while older people wear dark, matured colors and dull patterns. “ (Wikipedia)
The art is also very clever. In place of one of the traditional flowers, the artist depicted a small Tama-shell, surrounded by leaves, as if in bloom. It makes me wonder if this was released around a festival date...maybe Hanami or Tanabata? Are the artists behind Tamagotchi shrouded in mystery? I have not personally read interviews, and I would be curious to do so.
Back on track: I have never owned nor used a Tamagotchi Plus, and I could not get this one off of my mind, so I bought it. The Plus seems similar to the Connection, and the Keitai edition has functionality with Japanese phones. However, you don’t need a Japanese phone in order to play with it.
Once it arrives, I’ll be sure to share it with you all! I’m having a lot of fun blogging about Tamagotchi. What has been your most recent Tamagotchi buy? Don’t forget to check out our most recent article on the website.
As ever, make good with your ability today~
