Jacob Black story part 1
Not proofread btw
“Why do I have to go to Forks?” I questioned my grandma
“Because it will be good to spend some time with your sister. She misses you and you haven’t visited in a long time” my grandma returned.
“She never visited us.” I said with too much attitude.
“She is your sister!” Grandma retorted.
I sat quietly in the backseat listening to the radio.
I started living with Grammy and grandpa when I was 12. I always felt that my mom favored Bella to me. She took Bella on trips every other weekend, and overall I felt she just kinda forgot about me. Mom didn’t care much when I told her I wanted to live with Grammy. Thankfully Grammy and grandpa welcomed me when I arrived. I’ve been very happy living with them, even if I had to move schools. I didn’t have very good friends in Arizona anyway. I met all my good friends while I was in California. I still missed Bella though. We were good friends when we were young, and I never resented her despite being mom’s favorite. At the end of the day she was still my sister.
“Okay we’re here.” Grammy interrupted the silence as we arrived to the airport. I reluctantly climb out of the car to gather my suitcases. Grammy and grandpa pulled me in for one last hug.
I finally got through the airport security and was just waiting by my terminal. My flight wouldn’t be very long, maybe only a little bit over an hour. I didn’t bring a book, but I would most likely nap through the flight. I’ve never had any issues with flying, unlike my older sister Bella who can’t even blink during a flight in case something goes wrong. Poor girl was just born anxious. And since it’s not a long flight I wouldn’t need much to keep me occupied, just my own thoughts until I arrived. Would the people be friendly? I haven’t been to forks since I was around 9 years old spending my summers there. Would Jacob even remember me? It’s been so long since I’ve seen him. I skimmed through every possible scenario of what could happen when I reunite with everyone.
I tired myself out from worrying and decided a nap might calm my nerves. It felt like as soon as I closed my eyes I heard the pilot announce we were landing paired with that sinking feeling as the plane started to descend.
Before I knew it I was walking out of the plane into that signature gloomy sky and the slight sprinkle of rain falling down on my head. I walked into the terminal searching for maybe a sign with my name but then I realized they probably wouldn’t need a sign because the airport was so small that I easily spotted a now grown Bella and a tired looking Charlie waiting for me. Bella spotted me before Charlie did, with a wide grin. When I walked up to the two of them, I gave each one an almost awkward hug. Both of them are naturally kind of awkward and quiet people, and I obviously inherited some of that awkwardness from Charlie but I would say I’m more outgoing than Bella is.
Bella and Charlie directed me out of the tiny airport to the truck where Charlie and Bella started to ask me questions.
“How’s Grammy and grandpa?”
“What do you like to listen to?”
“Did you miss forks?”
But since they’re quiet people, they stopped after only a few questions and I know they’re not very big fans of small talk so I also shut up.
But then I got curious and started to ask Bella questions. Bella had already lived in forks for a couple months so she has already started school and had time to establish friendships.
“Who are your friends?”
“Can I meet them?”
“ what’s the school like?”
She kept giving me short answers like she didn’t want to talk anymore, but in younger sister fashion I began to pry at her and try to reveal what made her tick
“Do you have a boyfriend?”
After that question she was quiet for a moment so I knew there was a story for that.
“Yes I do. His name is Edward.” Bella responded after a few long seconds of silence.
“ Edward? His name is Edward? Is he like 40 years old? Is he from the Edwardian era?” I made a few other remarks to get her to speak more than two words. It definitely worked.
“No, he’s 17 just like me, we’re in the same grade.” Bella snapped.
“Okay girl, my bad. Just trying to have some sisterly fun.” I uttered back.
It was pretty quiet from then on, just the sound of the muffled radio combined with static.
We arrived at our house and Charlie took my bags from the truck up to my room. My room was beautifully decorated, clean and simple with cream walls, a soft pink patterned bedspread, a wicker headboard with a matching bedside table, lace curtains, and a real wood dresser.
“I left it mostly simple since I know you like to decorate your space how you like. You can buy some posters or whatever you like to decorate it some more.” Charlie chimed in.
“ I think it looks lovely but I definitely think I’ll add some of my own touch to it.” I explained.
Charlie left me alone to unpack and rearrange as I pleased. I brought some of my own things from Grammy’s place. A few music posters, a stuffed monkey I got while I was in Vegas, and a few books grandpa bought me before I left. I hung up my Fleetwood Mac, Jimi Hendrix, and Etta James posters on my wall next to my bed. And I put my books in the small shelf in my bedside table. I obviously put my stuffed monkey on my bed and I also put my rosary on my wall right above my bed.
Almost as soon as I finished setting up my room how I liked it and my clothes put away, Bella and Charlie appeared outside my door way holding a box wrapped in brown paper with a twine bow around it. “It’s just a housewarming gift for you.” Bella told me. I tore it open to reveal a suitcase record player paired with several vinyl albums of various artists I love. “Grammy helped a little bit with picking out the albums.” Charlie interrupted.
“But the record player was our idea, I swear on it.” Bella added.
“No no, I love it so much you guys. Thank you so much.” I leaned into them for a hug.
“Dinner will be ready soon, I’m making teriyaki chicken and rice tonight.” Bella added.
“Yummy.”
“We’ll let you adjust for tonight but I wanna take you into town tomorrow.” Charlie said to finish our conversation.
“What about Bella? is she going?” I asked to make sure we weren’t leaving her out.
“Bella has plans with friends in port Angeles for the day.”
That night I lie in bed thinking about all the interactions I might have tomorrow. Dad will probably take me to Billy’s or to the diner to see the waitresses who worked there. I always adored them, they would give me extra chocolate chips to put on my waffles or they would sneak me a dessert on our way out.
I realized just how much I missed everyone here. I had very fond memories here. Running on the beach with Jacob and Bella while dad and Billy would watch and laugh at us when a wave would roll up and get our shoes wet while I squeal because of the cold, eating at the diner at least 3 times a week, meeting kids my age at the park who I would then never see again. But I always hated the weather here, much too cloudy and gloomy, I thrived on the sun and the beach. That’s why I moved in with Grammy and grandpa when I wanted to escape mom, they have a house on the beach and it’s always sunny. I just simply wouldn’t survive too long in forks without getting homesick.
But I’m older now, 15 to be exact. And I know I’ll be able to last longer here than I previously could. Besides I really missed my dad and Bella. And Grammy could definitely use a break from me being attached to her hip at all times. I really do love my grandparents, they understood me very well. Grammy is the one who got me into older music and “old lady” hobbies like sewing. I love being able to make my own clothes and adjust them how I please. And although it’s hard for old people to get around, they always encouraged me to stay active, which is how I got into running. I love running so much, I did track and field as well as cross country for my old schools and I absolutely love it, I love the feeling of running while listening to music and just being able to move my body, it’s so freeing. Makes me feel like Forrest Gump when he ran across the U.S multiple times just because he felt like it.
I drifted to sleep while being comforted by the fact that I’m in a place I grew up loving.
In the morning I awoke to the smell of eggs and bacon. I looked up at my clock groggily to see it was 7:14. I slumped back in my bed. I’m not a morning person, I never was, Bella was always the one who woke up early to clean and make breakfast. But because I was pretty hungry I reluctantly get out of bed and down the stairs to meet Bella finishing up making breakfast and dad sitting at the table drinking his coffee and reading the daily paper. Dad mumbles a good morning and I mumble back.
When I finished my breakfast of an egg and toast with slightly undercooked bacon ( how I like it) I trudged back upstairs to change into some jeans and a fun patterned sweater, paired with my favorite gold and turquoise necklace mom got for me in New Mexico. It’s early march right now so it’s starting to get warmer but I still had to dress warm. I met dad downstairs and he was waiting for me in the living room near the front door. We both silently walked out to the truck.
“Where are you taking me?” I questioned.
“You’ll see.” Dad muttered back at me.
I started to get excited even if I didn’t know where we were going, he could be taking me to an orphanage for all I know. I just love surprises. When we arrived to our destination, I recognized it as Billy’s place and I saw a tall Jacob and a wheelchair bound Billy come out of the small house. I leap out of the truck before dad could even park it. I run up to Jacob and give him a hug. He was almost surprised by my action but returned the hug. I pulled away and leaned down to give Billy a hug as well as a peck on the cheek. I really missed these guys. Jacob was my best friend growing up and being away from him definitely took its toll on me.
We started to catch up, talking about what’s happened since I left and what I’ve been up too. Billy asked me if I had a boyfriend back home. I replied with no because that was the truth, I’ve had bad luck with boys, don’t know if they didn’t find me attractive or what the deal was, it kind of bothered me, though I would never let anyone think it did. Billy then shot Jacob a knowing look but Jacob seemed kind of annoyed at that.
“Well you’re a gorgeous girl y/n, any guy would be lucky to have you.” Billy said to me. I blushed and thanked him. Billy had always been very kind to me and treated me and Bella as if we were his daughters. And naturally me and Jacob were best friends since we were the same age and around each other all the time.
Jacob snapped me out of my thoughts when he handed me something in a small paper bag. I pulled the item out of the bag and I found a small dreamcatcher only a little bit bigger than my palm.
“I remember you always telling me about your crazy dreams and nightmares when we were little. Don’t know if you still do, but y’know.” Said Jacob.
“No, I love it, I do still have wildly vivid dreams believe it or not. This will definitely be useful, thank you so much.” I admitted.
“It’s beautiful as well.” I added
“I made it myself, you have to hang it above your bed and in a spot the sunlight can reach it.”
“Noted, and again thank you so much.” I said as I walked up to him to give him and Billy another hug before me and Charlie left to get something to eat.
“Hey, do you guys actually want to come get something to eat with us, my dad’s paying.” I told them.
“Actually, I am feeling peckish. What about you Jake?” Billy inquired.
“Yeah I could eat something, but only if it’s not a bother.” Jacob says.
“You’re never a bother Jake. Trust me it’s on me.” Charlie answered.
“Okay then.” Jacob gives in.
Me and Charlie rode to the diner in our truck and Jacob drove Billy in his own. We arrived at the diner and as soon as we walked in, one of the waitresses speed-walked over to us and gave me a tight squeeze and told me that I had grown up so much. She took us to a table and continued to talk to me while simultaneously taking our orders. I ordered a coke and a fried chicken sandwich, which was very tasty.
Almost as soon as we sat down, the conversations began to flow more smoothly and naturally. It almost felt as though I haven’t been gone for almost 6 years. Charlie and Billy were laughing about whatever it was they were talking about, and me and Jacob began to reminisce about our childhood together. How often we would play in the sand and mud at the beach, our sleepovers together, and of course, our baking days. Bella, Jacob, and I would always bake a bunch of desserts near the end of the summer before me and Bella went back to our mom’s place. So we would have some good desserts with us to keep a little bit of Forks when we were in Arizona. Even though me and Jacob grew up away from each other which obviously made things a little bit awkward for us, it’s always easy to laugh about your past with someone.
The four of us actually had so much fun at the diner, we lost track of time and the manager kicked us out because we were there way after closing. The four of us said our goodbyes and parted ways to go home. Safe to say I had a good day. I had already been in my room winding down for bed when I remembered I left my dreamcatcher in the truck. I tiptoed down the stairs to make sure I wouldn’t wake up Charlie who was knocked out on the couch with the TV on. I swiped the keys on the counter only to remember nobody actually locks their cars in Forks. It’s so small and everyone is so connected, nobody worry’s about getting broken into. I took my gift and sprinted inside since it was cold out and tiptoed my way up the stairs and into my room. I thought about what to do with it then I remembered what Jacob told me. “You have to hang it above your bed and in a spot where the sunlight can hit it.” So naturally I hung it on the wall above my bed and right next to my rosary.
I fell asleep that night content with the fact me and Jacob are still friends like before.
