Being the bleeding heart for animals I am, we found a stray and are trying to care for her until we find a home for her. I feel so badly for her. She is very, very friendly, but hates the crate. She needs to be in it because one of our cats is -very- territorial, and as you might know, we currently live in a tiny home.
We rescued her because she was very much in danger of being eaten by larger animals. Otherwise, we would have just let her be a happy, outdoor cat, trapped, spayed, and released. We checked for a microchip, asked around for an owner, and no luck. She goes through periods where she cries her heart out, and she’s doing so right now. I wish I could let her out and hold her.
She had been using the little litter box we made for her in the crate, but it smells as if she has urinated herself. We are going to try putting her in Faline’s old playpen that Faline didn’t do well in. It’s put away, and I need Brie's help to get it out. We need to put away some boxes to make space for it which is such a great fast track to get them put away! I’ll grab a few important things and be done with them for now.
We are very, very tentatively considering keeping her. Stanley seems to love her and is very worried for her. He hasn’t left her side no matter how much noise she’s made. He has slept behind her crate since she came in. He’s such a sweet boy. I hope this new frozen fish milk-not-milk stuff will help alleviate his allergies. An idea I had was building carpeted shelves along the walls to help give each of the cats their own territories. We’ve been getting them more and more spaces and they seem to love it.
I picked out this big Teflon bed to go on our bed that Nancy has taken over. (Carl can’t even use it when she’s not; she’ll attack from behind the clothes.) Carl has ownership of the carpeted purple hideyhole cave at least, (ugh) hangs out on the countertops, yellow chair, and his favourite next to the cave, my wheelchair. Stanley has the entire back of the house (along with Faline, somewhat, she goes wherever and isn’t territorial about it). Everyone but Stanley and Faline sleeps in bed together.
I am tentatively calling her Opal.
