The chionanthus virginicus (or white fringe tree) is honestly fascinating. It was originally categorized as a feminine genus, but later categorized as a masculine one, and some of them bear flowers of both "masculine" and "feminine" fringe trees. It can also propagate by grafting onto ash trees.

It's also native to Missouri and another for the "niche Missouri trees" category.

Second successful flowering of this Fringe Tree (Chionanthus virginicus) in the orchard June 25th. Nowhere near as grand as a fully mature specimen, but it'll grow into it, for now this is a cute start.

I still need to get it a partner as it's dioecious. I THINK this one's a female?? I should’ve bookmarked whom here on tumblr can sex Fringe Trees cause I could use that expertise.

Fringe tree is regarded as an excellent stimulating tonic and in modern-day herbal medicine, it is mainly used to treat ailments related to the liver and gallbladder.
