Anon, context matters here; however, I'm not going to link to my reblog where your can find the context because the person I reblogged has been hounded off of Tumblr by some weirdo that got a hold of their email address and sent them some troubling messages. You can scroll down my page to find the reblog if you'd like, but I'm not going to highlight their name here for their benefit.

Anyone can be self-righteous and can be a bully. When you're a third person and you see someone being called a word you think is a slur and they respond to this insult, why would you be more upset at the person who was called that slur than the instigator themselves? Consider that and how your stance on the issue might be a double standard; with double standards and hypocrisy, you usually find self-righteousness. And if you pursue this, unwilling to hear any arguments that counter your beliefs, then how does your persistent hounding not qualify as bullying?

The other important piece of context is that we're not talking about either variant of the n-word here, we're talking about slang from the 90's, the word "wigga" - this is a word I hadn't even thought about is 20 years. And it's a word that's directed towards white people, but I appreciate the concerns about its origins, so that's why I don't use the word except in an academic sense like right now. Yet I don't think it's insulting or a slur, it's used against white people after all, not an oppressed minority in the US, it's barely even relevant to any discourse today. But if you think it's a slur, then I'd suggest that you first direct your vitriol towards the person who first slung that word around; otherwise, yes, you'll come of as hypocritical and self-righteous, and if you press the issue relentlessly, then you've also entered bullying territory.
