Honest Opinion - Frog Zelos
Overall score (character, not looks): 0/10
Honestly? Fuck this guy. Straight to the point, I hated him so much in the show I cannot even bring myself to give him a score. His character went beyond the “villain being malicious” and crossed the line of “villain being a piece of shit”.
I do like bad characters, don’t get me wrong. Villains and bad guys are fascinating to watch in fiction, because you get too see how different they act from the main good guys. But Zelos is one of those characters that get under my skin. I hate characters that act like him, no matter the work they’re in, especially if that kind of behavior comes out of the blue. I can understand a villain acting like that in order to get something from the victim, but that gratuitous violence? “But he was taking revenge because Camus kicked his ass!” Yeah, but this thing enjoyed watching as one of his superiors got punished, and visibly wanted to be more than what he was (inferiority complex at its finest). Revenge? Maybe a little bit. But don’t tell me he didn’t do that also because he wanted to feel stronger than someone who beat him shortly before.
Villains are supposed to act “bad”, I know, but there’s normally a reason for that. There’s normally an objective to reach, a world to control or destroy, a person to kill or use at their advantage. Zelos had no reason to do what he did, other than wanting to feel powerful. This viscid piece of garbage had it coming. Fully support Hyoga on that one.
Moreover, his entire personality was awful and two-dimensional, the classic “I am too weak to I must beat up someone weaker than me to feel good about myself” thing. Which I absolutely hate.
