I’ve tried it a couple of years ago... enjoyed again this year! @frogbeer is one of #Paris’ best. Fruity, aromatic, rich and lightly bitter. #artisanalbeer #craftbeer #France #frogbeer (at Paris, France) https://www.instagram.com/p/B5-cYKqBM9K/?igshid=tc3e8zymmd6z

Pepe was strolling through Amsterdam. The city of freedom. The city of sin. And for him, the city of loneliness. He could not even admire the beauty of the city. The setting sun meant that the night crept closer by the minute and with it, darkness. When he looked around, all he saw were strangers. Everywhere he went, it was the same. He was an outcast, a wanderer amongst the settled, a frog amongst people.
So now he was strolling with nowhere to go, nowhere to be and noone to miss him should anything happen.
Go to Europe, they had said. You’ll find yourself!, they’d said. It’ll be fun!
Well, they had been wrong. It was anything but. In France, he’d almost commited cannibalism. And now here, in Amsterdam, he had been thrown out of his motel, because they had a strict No animals!-policy.
“Got a light?”, a handsome male asked.
Pepe looked at him with big, teary eyes. “I’m sorry, but I don’t smoke”, he said and already turned to continue on his way as the man said: “Woah, slow down there, brother! You look like you need company. Come to my bar. Have a drink with me.”
Pepe feeled friendly surprise rising inside him, just to be crushed by doubt. Which ulteriour motives did the man have?
His suspicions must have shown on his face, because the man laughed and said: “Don’t you know me? I am Douwe Bob! I like to drink, sing and having sex, but only the concensual kind.”
At that he winked. Pepe felt himself blush, but he tried to push it down. After a little concideration, he smiled for the first time in months and said: “Alright Douwe. I’m Pepe.”
My last FrogBeer of this trip was a Frog Natural Blonde. It probably is all in my mind, leaving Paris and such, but I think this was the best one. Blonde ale, yeah, a tad sour and wonderfully aromatic the hoppy way, I really enjoyed it. And I got again free chips (fries) with it - apparently being registered a fast food won't allow you to serve drinks alone. Kid welcomed it so I won't complain either. What else? There was a jogging marathon thing event along the Seine with zillions of runners, police cars trying not to drive them over, drummer or brass bands playing along and all in all something I'd have liked myself as well. Next time. Until then here's this pic of a funny key chain thing looking like a beer pint, ain't that sweet.
I’ve never seen so many people in a park, ever. I think the whole Zürich would fit the Jardin de Luxembourg and you’d still have room for a few more. Unfortunately you are not allowed to walk on grass, as an almost friendly policeman hurried to explain… Well, I had my Inseine, a hoppy pale ale very light in malts or yeast, so I couldn’t complain - FrogBeer makes good beers. The small kids of the group had their share of fun too - they uncovered stones, played with dog poo, thrown their souvenirs in the garbage bins, everything what makes a parent job fun. Luckily I’m (we’re) long over this phase…
Strolling through Quartier Latin with a Parislytic beer from FrogBeer in hand, life can be really good. I've eyed a couple of places - restaurants or pubs - with local beers as well, but they will do some other time. Until then I'll concentrate on this good red ale, hoppy and aromatic almost like an IPA, and let the pictures speak for themselves. Cheers!
I think I might have identified the FrogBeer main local. Can't tell for sure as I was being driven around but it matches the pieces of description I can recall - right neighborhood, called frog, a frog symbol... Lucky me I found this source as the restaurants around here don't really grok it when it comes to beer: Heineken, Kronenbourg, period. I was happy to find one with about 5 local beers on the menu, only to be told after a 10 minutes wait that they are all over. Like, ALL. So we landed in a traditional French restaurant with traditional French white wine and all was fine. Finally fine, because with a strike of genius I kept a FrogBeer Ginger Twist waiting for me in the room. This blonde ale, sour and quite aromatic, wasn't at all what I expected it to be - the description rather matches a white beer - was good but not stellar. On the other hand it still managed to crown my evening, so here's to it!
Pun alert: I'm drinking a Dark du Triomphe (again from the FrogBeer brewery) and it's not to be mistaken for the real Arc Du Triomphe. No need as it stands by itself as a nice stout - in other words not my style but my friend was really impressed. Humor, beer, I tried about everything but I'm still cold. Now even more as the waiting line at the Eiffel tower seems to need a whole hour...ouch. But we're almost there.
