It's been rainy in the evenings lately, so it's narrowmouth toad season—usually heard, rarely seen, but when I do manage to find one deep in the grass and not spook him, the photos are rewarding 🤎

Young barking tree froggle! 🥹 He'll grow into those large feets and become one of our largest native tree frogs, but for now he's fairly small. I've only seen a handful in as many years of looking for them, so this perky lump made me very happy. Also they sound hilarious (look them up on iNaturalist, filter for "has sounds", and enjoy) . The moniker is accurate.
