hiiiii ( ˶ˆᗜˆ˵ ) do you have any favourite frogs? are there any other animals you really love? - 🪼
OH MY GOD OH MY GOD YES YES YES
YESSSSSS
Okay SO
Mothers and fuckers of the jury, I would like to present to you my favorite family of frogs:
✨️Glass Frogs✨️
NOT ONLY. ARE THESE THE CUTEST THINGS THAT EVER DID THANG
^ a face i would commit war crimes for ^
BUT! ☝️ ALL species of glass frogs get their family name from being translucent or transparent along their bellies! Which means, surprise! No need for dissection:
YOU CAN SEE THEIR ORGANS!!!! Look at that shit! You can just see stuff working in there!!! You can see their little heart just lub-dubbing away in there! IT'S SO COOL.
These little arboreal buddies look like gummies. What the shit. They're so CUTE. And beautiful. I mean, look, they look like their namesake! They look like they've been made from glass!
You can only find these fellas, about 160 species of them, in Central and South America in dense forests, typically chilling in or on trees near sources of water. They are frogs after all, they have to spawn somewhere! But they don't spawn in the water: females lay their eggs on the undersides of leaves overhanging a stream, so that when the babies hatch, it's a short drop right into the water! I love them. Can you tell?
I also have to shoutout the doof, the myth, the legend: White's Tree Frogs!
You probably know these guys best as Dumpy Frogs, but they also go by Australian Green Tree frogs and are really popular pets. They can co-habitate with one or two other Frogs of their species moderately well from my research!
They are also, surprising absolutely zero people,
Tupid™️
And I say this so affectionately— Dumpy Tree Frogs— and any frogs, really— will attempt to put anything smaller than their mouth into their mouth, which is how we get humorous videos of things like a dumpy attempting to eat its owner's finger. Or the tweezers it's being fed with. Or its own foot. They're so dumb. I love them so much.
Moving on from Frogs, we turn to the denizens of the deep:
THE OCTOPUS!
Not just any octopus is my favorite, no, I have to shoutout the absolute miniature powerhouse that is the Blue Ringed Octopus.
Now, you may know these danger dumplings as those guys that will literally kill you if they bite you— and that's true! But They don't exactly have venom glands, not entirely— instead, the venom, TETRODOTOXIN, that they create comes from...
Bacteria in their saliva.
That's right! They take the Komodo Dragon approach! Or something similar to it.
Blue Ringed Octopuses have SALIVA. Deadly saliva. Saliva that can kill you without the proper medical attention— there is no antivenom for them, but if you get a ventilator to breathe for you, when the poison fully leaves your system (in... say, 15-24 hours), you can survive with no observed side effects to, y'know. Do it all over again if you're dumb enough!
I love them. Such cuties.
Also, quick shoutout to my boy the Bonnethead Shark as the only species ofshark able to reproduce asexually, we love to see it!! Hammerhead sharks in general have a special place in my heart for being funny shaped little goobers.
Uh... yeah! Those are my favorite frogs and critters! I have a whole long list of other favorites, but if I kept listing them, we'd be here for days.
Finished the lines for these! [wip]
