From Season 4 Finale

My honest thoughts on the finale after sleeping on it.

I really wanted to like the Season 4 finale more than I did. But honestly? I was really disappointed.

Not because nothing happened. A lot happened. Maybe too much, actually. In that very typical From way where the show throws five new problems into the room and then disappears through a secret tunnel.

The finale just felt too abrupt. The season had already dragged in places, and now here we are with way too many open questions, too many loose threads, and honestly too many characters I simply don’t enjoy watching anymore.

And now we have even more questions than before.

What’s happening with the hole in the ground by the tree?

Cool, no talismans now... fantastic.

What exactly are they supposed to do with the bones?

The walking wig ever going to use her powers properly again, or are we done with that now?

Is Henry still a danger? Please no. I actually like him.

What happens to Fatima now?

And what about her golem? Is it just standing around on its own now, having a tiny identity crisis?

Is Boyd going to be useful again in Season 5?

Victor is still one of the best parts of this show. No discussion.

As for Sophia... I’m choosing silence. 🤐

I really, really hope Season 4 was just one big setup for Season 5, and that the next season actually delivers. Right now, I’m still invested, but I’m also getting tired of being handed more mystery instead of actual answers.

FROM SEASON 4 FINALE THOUGHTS

so despite what i said now that i am of a little clearer mind i do have some thoughts to share, I may make a more refined post since i don't have very many theories formulated yet. whatever the case this episode was insane and at the time of watching it it felt like a good episode but a bad season finale and now that i've had a little more time to sit on it I don't feel as strongly on that opinion. the jade and tabitha moments were heartfelt and that was nice. I was very worried for them, and I am relieved they turned out ok 😓 The supposed poltergeist activity came up again, and it seems like it might actually be Ethan who is causing it. The scenes between ethan and julie broke my heart.. good grief we can't let them become orphans 🤧 poor elgin probably isn't gonna have anyone to mourn him, he was close-ish to julie and sara but with everything going on idk if there's gonna be time. i always liked elgin and the way he went out is really sad but i'm glad he stuck to his guns and remained virtuous. Clara fuckinn Sucksss and divorcingjimmatthews kinda said this too, i think, but sophia just does not work for me like she just does not feel like the MiY, i don't think julia doyle is doing anything wrong the direction just doesn't feel right, i can't get behind the portrayal. when the MiY is on screen i feel intrigued and frightened, when Sophia is on screen i feel Angry, i don't even want to look at her 😭 I was somewhat concerned the nighttime would be.. like.. for the rest of the series until they find a solution, It's interesting how it went dark and then it went light again. Patty was putting everyone in danger with her freakout but I sympathize with her and I appreciate it because it felt real.

the Marielle death scene with Kristi was just incredible, Chloe Van Landschoot portrayed the moment so well, it felt so real and it was heart wrenching to witness. then when Boyd finds her holding Marielle's body.. the way he holds Kristi, it's beautiful and tender and painful and it made me like Boyd more again after him recognizing Victor was right and then also being there to comfort Kristi like that. (To be clear I never stopped liking Boyd I just felt very upset with some of the decisions he was making)

Why did they stand out during the lightningg Whattt When there's lightning outside you stay INSIDE i thought Randall was about to get FRIEDD. and i already said this but it's insane they didn't check the ladder before dropping it down there. Speaking of Randall, he looks broken after all that tbh 😔 marielle was his friend.. the victor and henry scene... What the hell man. i was so scared for victor but then i was terrified he might end up shooting ethan, it felt like divine intervention that he showed up right then and there. genuinely just a horrible situation and i don't know if the relationship between henry and victor can ever be repaired but I do hope henry makes a comeback. Thank God Victor and Ethan are alive i feel like Fatima turning into a monster sort of supports my idea about them needing to set the monsters free, too. i feel like the townspeople are meant to parallel them in a way, not that the townspeople are evil, but rather that it seems in every cycle they end up causing harm and sacrificing people for personal benefit, mirroring how the monsters sacrificed the children. They need to break the cycle of violence. The monsters must be set free from their corruption, rather than destroyed, and everyone who has ever died here must be set free, too. The children, the trapped souls, the monsters, they are all in need of saving. My mom brought up the fact that Ellis actually did have character development this season because he relented and let Fatima go down there with them. the repercussions of it are certainly going to have a heavy affect on his character, and i don't know what he's going to do now that his wife is dead, that was his anchor. his judgement will probably be clouded and he might not be able to see she was going to turn into a monster anyways and used the last moments she had to do something heroic. in the end, it was the best thing that could happen. Looking back, it was always inevitable this was going to happen to her, and it all started with the pregnancy. the rotten fruit, the blood, murdering tillie, etc. she was always being slowly corrupted and it seems the MiY's blood only accelerated the process. She tried to fight back with the golem but she was always doomed :( her story is tragic and i am very sorry for her. her saying "Remember who i was".. Emphasis on Remembering once again.. Sophia and Clara stole all the talismans, but there's still one left: in the tunnels. I reckon next season there will be a dangerous mission that involves retrieving it before they can find out where the rest of them are (if they ever do). My brother's boyfriend also made a really good connection. At first we were kinda pissed because we thought it would've been better for Henry to not shoot Victor due to changing his mind after talking to him, giving us some hope to hold onto in a hopeless episode (im still not too happy about his arc), but then he thought about it and drew the lines: everything that gave hope was taken in this episode ellis -> fatima fatima -> beloved by the community boyd -> family structure victor -> his fathers protection ethan and julie -> dont know tabitha is alive kristi -> marielle These are the consequences of ripping away the hope tree, I was expecting the consequences to be more material, but it is narrative and has more to do with their personal relationships, to make us really Feel it, i imagine. But there are certainly material consequences we are going to see as well, I mean, the sudden night was one, then the lightning. (We don't know what the lightning is about!) but the lack of hope in this finale makes me think that in season 5 they will spend the time building it back up. Where the hope comes from with the tree uprooted? I'm not quite sure, but I know it can't be gone. (My theory about uprooting it ending the reincarnation cycle seems to be false, i also thought maybe the BiW was directly connected to it but he is still here..) lastly, I've said it before and I'll say it again: they need to take the bones to the lake of tears!!
