smallville clex vs. love languages
“What’s your love language, Clark?”
“Love language. You know, like words of affirmation or acts of service or — this is all drawing a huge blank for you, isn’t it?”
Clark smirks and nods, his hands running down Lex’s jacket, smoothing the spots his body wrinkled.
“When you feel most loved by another person... is it because you’re physically close to them or you’re spending quality time with them or they’ve done a favor for you without you having to ask them or they’ve told you what you mean to them?”
“And I have to pick just one?”
“For the purposes of this conversation,” Lex breathes, as Clark runs a thumb across the scar on his lip. “Yes.”
“Hm,” Clark hums, pulling his hands back to Lex’s chest, letting them rest there. “It depends on the person, I think.”
“And if the person was me.”
Clark flashes his eyes up to him.
“When you’re physically close to me,” he says quietly, almost like he’s embarrassed. “Like when you hug me to your chest. Or when you play with my hair.”
Lex runs a hand through his hair. “Oh yeah?”
“What’s yours,” Clark says, fluttering his eyes closed as Lex palms his temple.
“When you tell me how you feel.”
Clark’s eyes shoot open and he furrows his brow. “Really?”
Clark stands up a little straighter. “Well, the first time I ever tried to say I love you, you said “don’t” before I could get any words out.”
Lex laughs and Clark sinks back against him, but not all the way. Never all the way.
“I don’t always know how to accept them,” Lex says.
Clark just nods. “Do I have a limit on how many words I’m allowed to say?”
