tim is sensitive to the sun.
You too can be carved anew by the details of your devotions.-M.Oliver View from the bike, Four Mile. Lessons of the day--keep breathing, keep pedaling, the only failure is not to try, just keep climbing. #thiskeepsmesane #mountainlife #mountainbiking #fromthebike #bikingwithfriends
Ride notes 10/27 - His name was Jim and he wanted to talk about my bike. He's seen a lot of the "new" bikes but hasn't gotten up close with one yet. He's 86. He found his first bike in an attic when he was 4 and says with a laugh "it was old then." It had tires that were glued on, fixed gear and no brakes. He started riding it at 5 and discarded it when he could afford a Schwinn. He wishes he held on to that first bike. From that first bike to now he's ridden the California coast from San Francisco to San Diego twice on a touring bike he customized to fit his needs. He camped along the coast on those rides when we needed to rest. Sometimes at day, sometimes at night. Big Sur highway, on bike, in the dark, in the 50's or 60's. That's legend. He's ridden Bakersfield to LA countless times, trying to go faster and faster with each trip. He rode every day he could except for the years he was moved to Texas for work. "The drivers there would try to kill you." He still rides. A beach cruiser with a helmet and a mirror attached. He simply wanted to talk about my bike, his bike; my ride, his ride. His hearing wasn't good and he did all the talking and story telling. Someday hopefully I'll be lucky enough to be Jim. To live a life of adventure and find some "kid" and swap stories in the middle of a faceless Tuesday afternoon. Tell stories. About bikes. #ridenotes #fromthebike #bikes #cycling #stories
Ride notes 7/29. "And a day was good to awaken to. And there were no limits to anything. And the people of the world were good and handsome. And I was not afraid any more." John Steinbeck, East of Eden Steinbeck. Riding through the valley I often think of Steinbeck. It's the countless fields and the stories of the faceless workers tending to them. Some days these fields smells like cilantro. Then a few weeks later it's cabbage. Then later in the season the overwhelming smell of something you can't quite figure out. The beauty of seeing life from the bike is that you're out there. In it. You feel and smell everything. #ridenotes #santaynez #bikes #cycling #fromthebike
