I know there are still a few months left in the year, but I’m calling it now that Cyprien Gaillard’s “Nightlife” is the best thing I’ve seen this year. Yesterday at MoCA Cleveland was my third encounter with the work this year (first was at Gladstone in New York, second was at the FLV in Paris) and the best. I sat on the floor next to an amplifier because the bench was full when I entered the room. The room was smaller than the other ones that I’ve seen it in. I could feel the music and the beat pulsing through my body. After watching it several times (and staying seated on the floor, which is how I prefer to watch films in museums and galleries) I walked over to the CMA to see the damaged Rodin thinker statue that figures prominently in the film (last image before the text). Skeptics of 3D film or art film in general and/or everyone...see this if you can! #CyprienGaillard #mocacleveland #fronttriennial #frontart2018 #clevelandmuseumofart #contemporaryart @fronttriennial (at Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland MOCA) https://www.instagram.com/p/BoHO8E-lzTG/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1ggubjnctt2jf
