hey i'm a musician so i have to ask this one: if you had to create a soundtrack for your story, what songs would you choose? why?

Ohhhhhh Frost you just asked the dreaded soundtrack question!! 😱

First of all, I can’t possibly list all of the songs I would like to list here, as at the moment I have over 60 tracks on my Yume x Cid playlist. Yeah, no exaggeration. So, I shall give you and everyone a tiny sample of that. I did list five songs that fit Yume in this post HERE.

1. “Paint It Black” from Westworld by Ramin Djawadi

This one looks familiar right? Well, some might have noticed that this song title shares its name with Yume’s OC tag, and that’s for a very good reason. This song is actually a cover of the amazing Rolling Stones version, and it is one of the songs from Westworld season 2 where they go to Shogunworld. This is what I picture in my head when I think of Yume’s childhood and early adulthood in Hingashi before she attempts seppuku. Just nice samurai vibes abound.

2. “These Dreams” by Heart

I chose this one because of the lyrics and how it fits with Yume’s Echo visions, in particular the time that she gives Cid his goggles via the Echo, though she doesn’t remember actually having done it, believing it to be all a dream. During ARR, she also begins to have dreams of the Calamity and a younger Cid, as she doesn’t remember being in Eorzea then.

3. “Sayuri’s Theme” from Memoirs of a Geisha by John Williams

This is another song, similar to “Paint It Black”, that I chose because of the atmosphere and it always reminds me of Yume’s life in Hingashi and all of the trauma that she has been through. The song has a beautiful melancholy to it, and I picture this as the song that plays when Yume realizes that she is in love with Cid but thinks that he doesn’t return her feelings.

4. “Ordinary Day” by Vanessa Carlton

This one is a song that came to me when I was writing the prompt for Cid as Marques showing Yume the Burning Wall and the night sky. I think it captures just what Yume sees in Cid, and it’s during this time that Yume, unknowingly, begins to fall in love with him.

5. “A Whole New World” from Disney’s Aladdin by Alan Menken

Okay okay, I think this is me indulging the Disney fangirl in me and my choice of a Disney song for Yume and Cid. Just replace the magic carpet with an airship and it’s just perfection. I know it’s cringe and I don’t care!

I hope to actually have a full Yume x Cid playlist (on Spotify possibly?) for y’all sometime in the future, but until then have this. Thank you so much @frostmantle for the ask!! 🥰💖

Alyx may have already gone to bed, but she clearly had no immediate intention of sleeping. The lamps were lit, and she was sitting mostly upright on top of the covers rather than under them, propped up by multiple pillows. Evidence she had been reading lay beside her--a book still open but clearly set aside on purpose rather than dropped. She was in a state of in-between, not yet dressed for bed but clearly undressed for comfort: tights and socks still on, skirt hiked comfortably up her folded legs, and the high collar of her shirt drooping wide. 

All of these details were, in Aymeric’s mind, familiar, and rather unremarkable (assuming it were possible to claim anything about Alyx was unremarkable). But as he approached, wincing all the while at that one particular floorboard’s announcement of his arrival, he was struck by a detail wholly unfamiliar and quite remarkable indeed: she was wearing glasses.

He had never, ever seen her in any kind of spectacles, nor had he ever known her to require them. These were subtle, nearly rimless, as un-encumbering to her features as was likely possible for such an adornment to be. Aymeric felt then as if he had stumbled not upon a common scene, but a glimpse of a carefully guarded secret.

Another familiar detail: Alyx was almost immediately awake upon his entrance to the room. Even without the traitorous manor floorboards, it was nearly impossible to sneak up on her. She perked up with a sharp inhale and blinked furiously into the scene she had woken into, reaching first for her book, and then, instantly, for the glasses.

Aymeric said nothing, just smiled at her in triumphant glee.

Alyx snatched them from her now deeply-reddening face.

“Not a word,” she threatened groggily.

“Not even one?” 

Her energy snapped back from dozing in the form of an extremely rapid defense: “I only wear them occasionally because sometimes I get awful headaches if I’m reading when I’m tired and ever since I came back from the First it’s been happening a lot more and I needed to do something to--”

“Adorable,” Aymeric said through a chuckle, “If I am to be limited to one word.”

Alyx groaned, rolled her eyes and frowned all at the same time, which produced a result arguably more adorable than the glasses.

“I am not teasing!” Aymeric realized it was difficult to convince her of such when the claim was made through laughter, “Truly, I think they look quite fetching.”

“Thanks,” she mumbled, still pouting, still blushing, still gods damned adorable, “Welcome home.”

Cid Garlond!

When it comes to history and lore hunting. This man is full to the brim with history hunting and uncovering hidden truths down to their very cores. He would appreciate someone with that same hunger to find all things hidden and unearth them. He’ll be glad to teach you things, and your soldering abilities will come in handy for things he might need done with a little finesse to them.

Tinkering with things is something he does, and how to make them work, showing him anything you are proud you created with your own hands gains a lot of respect and praise.

He’ll of course have good down moments where you can create stories out of nowehere and recount tales to just wind down for an evening. Or just indulge each other of possibilities and maybe some other topics. He’s the kind of person who would gladly sit down and listen to you talk about whatever excites you too. He does not mind having his ear talked off either. Only with it being you.

1. Do you have a favorite character to write? Who and why?

1. Do you have a favorite character to write? Who and why? 

Good lord - yes!!! I love writing Alisaie. She is the most snarky, self-confident, powerful and intelligent brat I ever encountered. She is the only one that can put the WoL in their place and she will never hesitate to do so! They are with their friends? Done. The WoL fucks up in public? Come on, she loves that. The leaders of the eorzean Alliance are standing next to them, waiting to continue planning a battle? Do you even have to ask? But on the other hand, she has that deep compassion, she cares, she loves and she truly fears for her friends and allies. She would go on and die for them, if she had to to protect them. But while being confident and snarky and what not, she is still a woman and she feels deeply. And her outbursts are how she shows it. And how she shows, that she sometimes feels helpless in the face of the enemy (see: the level 78 quest after Innocent - that is the Alisaie I love). Also: She is the best excuse to give Alphinaud one hell of a time XD

2. Do you have a favorite trope to write? Or one you want to write? 

It’s not my favorite, but I am really good at angst. I think that might be because I was a mix of an Emo, Goth and literal bouncing ball as a kid. Also: having read a multitude of angsty fanfics as a teen helps. So I mix my talent for angst with what I love second best: Romance. And thats how I write my heartbreaking stories, where two people deeply in love just cannot be together. Or get torn apart. Or watch each other die. And so on. When writing this, my heart breaks - it literally aches. And that feeling is beautiful. And if I can make the reader feel similar? That’s even better. But I’m not a masochist. I cannot stand prolonged angst. Which is why my favorite thing to write is an angsty love story with a happy end. Something, where the protagonists have to earn their happy ending. And that’s maybe because I have resigned to the fact, that that’s not how it works in real life. At least in my stories, hardships and failure and being persistend will pay off, no matter what.

3. Share your favorite description you’ve written?

Stay, I Pray You - it’s literally a description of Garlemald, it’s history and it’s defectors internal turmoils, while the FFXIV Write 2019s prompt #24 Unctuous is my personal wet dream of what the Ala Mhigan royal palace and a meeting with Zenos could have been. Well. I’m not gonna gush over him now. But to be quite honest: I don’t really feel like any of my descriptions ever is adequad. So picking out what I think I did best, is not that easy...   

4. Share your favorite dialogue you’ve written?

... there are too many. I love the exchange between the Exarch and the WoL in Marry me. - it’s so tragic and (pleaes see Nr. 2) just on brand for me. But my crowing piece of written dialogue might be my entry for 2019s FFXIV Write - prompt #26 “Slosh”. Writing it was suprisingly easy and I feel like I captured the alliance leaders quite well - even Aymeric. (Also, literally any interaction between Bolt and Sarada in my very old story Finding Papa. I feel so guilty for never having finished it.)

5. Scene you haven’t written, but want to?

This is like... really basic, but I really really want to write a scene with Ser Aymeric. I have tried before. But I just cannot get the hang of this man. He is so hard to write. And everytime I try, I end up scrapping it (well - not really, more like, never letting it out of my one drive). I wrote and published a cringy AU version of the negotiations before the Gimlyth Dark. I wrote a 15 pages long reaction of my WoL to him getting stabbidy stabbed and her getting more than just emotional over it and watching over him, as he sleeps. It just never felt right. So what I want to say is, that I want to write a scene between my WoL and Aymeric, that doesn’t feel cringy and OOC to me, but isn’t so personal, that I would not publish it. Also, dearest @frostmantle knows about one or two of my ideas for an origin story of a WoL. I really want to write that. :D

Livia ❤️ honestly I’m a little annoyed her entire character arc in game basically got defined by wanting Gaius senpai to notice her.

see, as a basic introduction it would have worked! nero is pretty damn popular and he was initially introduced as the tech bastard who was obsessed with one-upping cid. we could have got livia unlearning the need to live solely for one person, maybe even a reconciliation with lucia. wouldve given some cool insight with stormblood stuff too since she was active in dalmasca and (i think) ala mhigo too.
