Yes I Ship Free and Lui

I don't know if i'm going to post more, maybe art about these two again or an art dump of my original story 🤷‍♀️ I know i just got bored and wanted to post something

How do you think Free and Lui got over the language barrier? Because I think that they’d have no idea what the other was saying when they first met, with Lui speaking Japanese and Free speaking Spanish, so how tf would they communicate? I like the idea of them staring at each other in confusion when the other is speaking because they don’t know wtf the other is talking about (except maybe their names, since names kinda sound the same in most languages)

Any fun headcanon(s) about how they got over that language barrier, pls :>

I’ve actually imagined the two being somewhat fluent in each others language! (But we all know who’s the better one).

Since Free was closely raised by Jinbei - who is Japanese - I do imagine that he would teach him the basic principles to understand the language. For Lui, I hc him being fluent in numerous languages thanks to his family. However, most are spoken formally than casually. As such, whenever they do interact, Lui usually speaks to Free in Spanish with his vocabulary not exactly being the greatest elsewhere.

However, I do agree with the staring part! But that’s more so on the list of hcs I’ll write below hehe.

Whenever Lui is tired, he usually stays stares at Free silently, struggling to translate them into Japanese.

Free had asked Kris, Valt and Rantaro to help improve his Japanese, just so he could understand Lui better.

Lui would subtly flirt or compliment Free in Japanese. Essentially using characters that usually fall under a romantic context.

Initially into their sparring sessions, Lui thought Free couldn’t understand Japanese and would insult him whenever he was upset. That later changed when Free rebutted him in Japanese and embarrassed him even further.

Free would usually rely on Lui to translate conversations, due to his wide knowledge. Furthermore, he’d ask Lui to translate his rebuttals. Pretty much like-

Rando: How could you date someone like him? He’s dangerous!

Free: Lui?

Lui: ¿Cómo puedes salir con alguien como él? ¡Es peligroso!

Free: Oh. Debes ser bastante débil para pensar que él da tanto miedo.

Lui: You must be- Huh?
