jay   hadn't   meant   to   follow   the   scent   of   death.      he'd   just   been   walking.      aimless,   pulled   forward   by   the   hum   that   never   really   went   quiet   anymore.      it   buzzed   low   &   kind   of   sharp   in   the   base   of   his   skull.      like   a   wire   strung   too   tight,   a   warning.      a   direction.      something   old   moving   through   the   air.   the   alley   was   narrow,   cold.      still   dripping   from   the   rain   that   had   stopped   hours   ago.   he   felt   the   shift   in   the   air   as   soon   as   he   stepped   into   the   shadow   of   the   building.      a   pressure   shift,      a   wrongness.      not   chaotic,   not   sloppy.      controlled.      there   was   someone   else   here   –   they   were   still,   too   still.      

he   stops,   just   outside   of   the   reach   of   a   flickering   security   light.      his   eyes   narrowing   on   the   silhouette   half   -   lit   by   the   flickering   amber.         ❝         what   have   you   done   ?         ❞         inquiry   is   laced   with   accusation,   gaze   dragging   over   the   body   at   dorian's   feet.      there   was   no   blood.      why   was   there   no   blood   ?         after   a   moment   of   inquisition,      jay   realizes   that   the   dead   at   the   other's   feet   had   not   been   human   either.      this   tragedy   was   hardly   a   tragedy   at   all.      the   dead   were   taking   care   of   themselves.
