the sun sets on another long day of hurricane cleanup in the outer banks. the day was cut slightly short by adam and roman, choosing to sneak away from their cleaning duties early to split a six pack on the water. adam’s feet dangle off the edge of the orion (though the boat would always be eggs-ta-sea in adam’s heart) as the boat idles. though a comfortable silence had settled between the two, adam chooses to break it after finishing his second beer. “when are you gonna move out?” it seems like the question comes out of nowhere. it’s not something they regularly discuss; neither of them has the money to move out. but money no longer felt like a burden, with adam’s dad missing. everyone at the wreck felt bad enough for adam that they suggested that he get his dad’s wage in addition to his own in order to stay afloat, while not making him take over all of his dad’s responsibilities yet to give him time to adjust. it’s sweet, but unnecessary; his dad would be back soon enough, he doesn’t need to adjust. but now he has a convenient excuse to get roman out of his house.
