It was high school all over again. Okay, scrap that, because high school had been way easier for Alex. Back before the world had gone to shit and he had been popular and everyone had like him except for his homeroom teacher Mrs. Beesley. At least high school forced you into proximity with other people as a way to get to know others, not that he had tried to do anything friendly in Redwood. Work had been an easy excuse to be by himself.
His talk with Cass had gotten him to realize that maybe it was time for him to try a little harder to stop being so depressed. Everyone wanted him to be happy here, Rosalie included. He needed to at least try to find some sort of semblance of happiness, even if there was still a part of him that wanted to be miserable. That felt like he deserved to be miserable for a dozen or so reasons.
So there he stood in the community center figuring out where to sit. It wasn’t like there weren’t plenty of empty seats, but Alex was doing this to try and be sociable. The problem was this wasn’t actually high school, and sitting next to someone when there were dozens of empty places tended to be frowned upon.
When Alex was about to cut his losses and head back to the farmhouse, he was surprised to see Sol in the corner of the eating area. Well. He had thought about visiting Sol at some point to see him, and it seemed as good a time as any. Alex made his way over to the table. Once Sol had noticed his presence, he gave the older man a curt nod in acknowledgment. “Seat taken?” he asked. Sol gave his blessing for Alex to sit across from him. “So... Cass told me you’re healing up alright. I hope gettin’ around and doing stuff and all that hasn’t been too hard with the leg.” It was the best he could think of, not wanting to get into anything too personal or upsetting right off the bat.
