This is canon to my verse. Delia took on the surname Ketchum to be supportive of Ash and make his new identity stand out less.

The fun answer: Yes because that rocks

The wet blanket answer: I headcanon that the pokemon world's application of medical science is particularly advanced; partially thanks to Pokemon; that surgery is far less invasive. My wife's had whole lil' headcanon dumps about how you can like, have a Luxray perform X-rays with their vision that a Psychic-type uses to make small surgical cuts without even breaking the skin. Something in that neighborhood.
