I think about the second stage x-men auditions alllll the time
#I think this specific audition sequence helped crystallize a lot of vague thoughts I've been having about movement and dance#because it's always interesting to see what the same choreography looks like on different bodies#across body type — across gender — across skill level#and particularly duet choreography: what are the different narratives each dancer is projecting in this particular iteration of the duet?#and how does the audience read different dynamics across different performers/bodies?#also the relationship of seamlessness to performance; what separates what we see as a “good” dancer from a “great”/“professional-level”#is often this unconscious perception of “seamlessness” i.e. can you see the individual pieces of the choreography?#is the performer moving from point A to point B in a legible and perceptible manner?#or does it emerge in a manner that looks wholly improvisational yet inevitable?#anyways.
